these are just a rebadged version of Urbanears Medis. their on-ear headphones are also rebadged Urbanears Plattans.

and based on that fact, these should also sound equally horrible, which is pretty upsetting considering the Marshall name. the only thing inspiring about them is the packaging. i really wanted to check these out until i was informed of their rebadge history, which is really too bad.

i guess it's why they didnt bother to get these out there for review by anyone.

Repackaging is big business at the mid-low end for headphones these days - that's why you see so many 'boutique' names over the last couple of years. Large Chinese OEM's can personalise products for a brand, and the brand can pretty much leave everything up to the manufacturer in terms of fulfillment.

Repackaging and branding is indeed a huge business, and one in which a lot of companies are doing very well. However, I think that the Marshall products are considerably more than a rebrand with shiny new stickers and packaging (if they're even related to Urbanears at all).

compare the minor with the medis.

I have. The two designs are still different in form and material though they do share the same metallic grille. Obviously I have neither so I can't tear them apart to view the components but I suspect there would be differences inside as well.

I guess my point was that just because companies use the same OEM doesn't mean that something is a rebrand. They would have to be the same product for that to be the case.

You're giving them an awful lot of credit. Perhaps the Want is overwhelming your critical faculties? [evil grin]

I'm in fact almost sure they (the major vs plattan) sound different. But only because they're likely virtually the same drivers (if not the same) tuned for a different sound.

As for the minor, the enclosure is the same.

The average sound quality scores seem higher on the Marshalls, but as a new owner of a pair of Medises, I take that as an endorsement of both models : )

Where are you getting your info? Have you actually looked at the photos of the Marshall Majors and Minors next to the Urbanears models? They don't look alike, nor do they share the same features. At the very least, the industrial design has been completely overhauled including different materials, forms, etc. Considering, though, that Marshall claims to have designed and manufactured these headphones, something tells me your claim is at least slightly off-base.

FYI

See what I mean?

Well spotted regarding the Major vs the Plattan! They are very likely indeed from the same OEM.

Nooooooo!

I bet this means that the Marshall Major headphones are also probably rebadged. Le sigh.

Rehoused, not rebadged. So actually differentiated. Of course, as I said there's no guarantee the drivers are any different, and that you're only paying for the 'luxe' furniture. Most Chinese-sourced headphone drivers are crud in any case.

Wow, that looks to be a pretty spot-on observation. At least they're not grossly overcharging--only $10 more for a trendier design.
