Out of the box the device is very sluggish not a very nice experience, but Cowon some how got the sound quality of the D3 to be even better than the s9 wow. The UI is slow and sticky the music player is laggy when responding to UI player controls and hardware controls. Video does play back 720p video just fine with a few hiccups along the way. This can be a great device if the UI and was smoothed out and all all the glaring bugs were taken care of.
I am going to hold on to it in hopes that all the UI bugs will be squashed and it will become a good device.

The player a quite large compared to the others and does not feel as nice as s9 in your hands.
How did you evaluate sound quality? Is it just that it has more audio clown shoes (BBE etc) than the S9, or that it actually has better quality than the (sub-Apple) S9?
Good luck with the bugs. Cowon always release their gear at below Alpha level, followed by a flurry of updates over about 3-4 months after release to take it to somewhere around Alpha level, and it's usually at a below Beta level when they stop releasing updates.
The S9 was my last Cowon... probably ever. I've learned my lesson at last.

It was just a first impression listen, It just seemed warmer but nothing technical just my opinion. I did how ever try playing a 1080p x264 video with DTS audio in an mkv container, the video played flawlessly but there was no audio output, seems DTS is not recognized. Note this was played on the player not output to hdmi (which requires a proprietary hdmi adapter cable that does not ship with the device). I also could not get it to see embedded subtitles in a couple of x264 video files... I hope they add support for those..
