The geniuses at the iPhone-Dev team just released the new jailbreak for iOS4/4.0.1 devices via a Safari, so this is a non-tethered jailbreak. Pretty convenient.

I can confirm that this works on my 3GS, just jailbroke my 3GS running iOS 4.0.1 now. Apple should probably address those Safari security flaws at some point. I will keep testing to see how it goes. This is supposed to work on the iPhone 4 as well. Be warned, it's possible you might brick your phone and oh, back up your device. The servers are being hammered right now, so I'd wait it out a bit for the flood to get theirs in.

Looks like it won't work for 4.1 beta, but will also work with the iPad running 3.2.1. I haven't tried that out myself since I'm running the spirit jailbreak on mine running 3.2.

Also, this won't unlock any device, just jailbreak it running 4.0 or 4.0.1, the unofficial unlock hasn't come yet.

Just saw Aaron post this on Twitter. I think this justifies jailbreaking by itself. Notifications management!

Waited out the storm for a few hours and just used the ModMyI mirror to successfully jailbreak my iPhone 4 running 4.0.1! Easy as pie!

Quick update -- I had the problems with missing MMS / Facetime features, but a quick update via Cydia solved that. Now I have MyWi running again (hello wifi hotspot!). So excellent!

Update: Some jailbreak apps don't work yet on the 3GS, in particular, Proswitcher (webOS like cards for multi-tasking,), but backgrounder still works like a charm for full backgrounding instead of the limited APIs that Apple provides for their iOS4 apps and for you 3G and 1st-gen iPhone owners.

The jailbreak hasn't really affected performance for me and with the folders in iOS4, the jailbreak.

The unlock that was released today from the same team works underfully:

Works great with my T-Mobile sim on the 3GS.
