That black button above the lanyard point...

... It looks like the release for the flash, doesn't it. Why can't people who do pop-up flashes follow Sony's lead with the V1? It is annoying on all the Lumixes I've had, and it is annoying on the D-Lux 4.

I'm not sure about this - it seems to improve in one area of the things I find lacking on the DL4 - image quality in varying light conditions, but doesn't address any of the other practical-use complaints I have (no integrated lenscap, stoopid manual pop-up flash, etc). I'll probably end up getting it for the better sensor but I have yet to find a decent quality point-and-shoot that is a true all-round successor to the Sony DSC-V1.

The black nub is an anti-brassing nub. It keeps the lanyard from rubbing off the finish of the camera.

The X1 is aluminum, so I'm not sure if it's actually necessary or not, but on the M cameras it helps mitigate the wearing away of the paint.

You know what, I didn't even realise the M's had it until I looked with the above knowledge. And in relatives, the X1's nubs are more pronounced.

Anyway - I'm still mulling, having very recently got rid of the M8.2 as fatuously overblown for my requirements. The X1 is also quite an expensive piece of kit - and from what I read in photog forums it seems that owners are happier than dpreview's 'trying hard to find nice things to say' review, but I can't help wondering if that's just a case of ownerjustificationitis. But the E-P1 doesn't even have the capability to focus in low light, and the GF1 isn't quite the package I want either. I'm wondering if I should stick with the D-Lux, as imperfect as it might be...
