Still the One!

Of all the gadgets I have owned over the years... This one was the top of the heap! Still waiting for a device to top it. The new PDAs are pretty, thin and fast... But are missing the "soul" that newton had. What a great product this was!

I still have mine and love aspects of its industrial design but I'm always surprised more people don't comment on how hard the screen is to read. It would be great if elements of the OS such as the could be implemented on a more modern device, but I guess this is just an evolutionary branch that has died out. Nowadays for instance it would be necessary to build in phone and camera functions.

Yep, the original market research which shaped the development indicated demand for a cellphone/pda combo. Unfortunately the state of electronic technology at the time didn't allow a cellphone to be miniaturised enough to allow it all to fit in a suitably small package.

For what I want the Newton to do, I'm happy to carry around a smartphone and the Newton. The Smartphone is great for any outdoor situation where notetaking isn't required. The Newton does the job of notetaking and a laptop.
