Sprint follows AT&T and Verizon, increases early termination fee to $350

Do you have a sweet smartphone? Are you on Sprint and eyeing another carrier before your contract is up? Be prepared to pay a $350 early termination fee, starting September 9th.

I realize the necessity for carriers to do this, considering how little they sell the phones for under contract. It still burns though!

Hah, I just read a cynical view of this move on Cult of Mac -- it seems to coincide nicely with rumors that Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5.

I have a Samsung Transform on Sprint, which I hate. I also have a really bad signal at my apartment, to the point where I make most of my calls using Google Voice when I'm at home. I've been seriously considering canceling early (my contract doesn't expire until October 2012) and getting a Verizon iPhone. I guess I need to make a decision quickly.

If you can prove that you cannot get reception at your home address and the carrier can verify it - there is a clause in all cell phone contracts that you get out of the contract with no early termination fee... I used to work in the wireless industry for almost a decade so I know this...

Of course, then I'd be getting an iPhone 4 just weeks before the iPhone 5 comes out :/

The price we have to pay to get subsidized phones... Buying Smart Phones with no contract is not funny either! Most wireless carriers don't start making money till after a customer stays on their service for 3 months, 6 months to a year - it depends on how much they subsidize the phone and what plans/features the customer signs up for... I remember before you can cancel your data plan anytime - now if you get a smart phone you HAVE to get the data plan and keep it for the duration of your contract...
