Sony PlayStation 3 Feature Wish List
I would love to see the following features added to the PlayStation 3 firmware:
- Netflix "Watch Instantly" support
- Streaming support for iTunes shared libraries
- Support for Internet Radio
Does anyone know of an effective and productive way to communicate these requests to Sony?

As far as getting their attention..... I'd say starting an online petition someplace certainly can't hurt. Find an active forum on their official boards, visit their official blog and comment to posts. Commenting on places like Kotaku and Joystiq would help.
Here's my sample list:
- downloadable rentals through Gamefly
- downloadable movie rentals through Redbox
- internet radio support
- ripping DVD's to HD (by registering your DVD securely somehow)
- open the floodgates for archived PS1- PS2 games
- bluetooth cellphone support - file transfers/ calls over the TV set / BT- remote profile since Sony Ericsson handsets have this feature
- Bring the DVR unit to the states from Europe

I meant a global private chat. If I'm playing LBP and a friend wants to private chat when he's in the XMB, I have to quit the game and join that lobby. By that time, he's long gone thinking I'm not going to join.
The only game invites I've seen only work if your friend is in the same game. If I remember correctly, KZ2 doesn't even have invites. You just have the option of "joining" a friend, if he's in MP.

True HD Neflix sans computer (ie PlayON) would be excellent as well. I just don't think SONY will do so as it will go against their store downloads. Too bad, as it's something that many people would really like to have and will round out the multi-media capabilities of the PS3.
I truly wish the media libraries were easier to navigate. Scrolling through 80gb of music, 140gb of pictures, or even just a few dozen videos is cumbersome and annoying.
I find myself making playlists of all my favorite artists as it can take up to a minute to navigate to any specific artist who has a name in the middle of the alphabet.
If they added even minimally improved navigation for getting through the media lists, such as being able to enter a letter on a keyboard and have it jump to the media starting with that letter, the PS3 would truly become the media center for my home (it technically already is, but it would be adopted by my wife too).
If there is some solution to this that I'm not aware of please definitely post your tips/suggestions. I'd be happy to have missed something that makes navigating easy.

Storing your music, video, and photos on a DLNA compliant server (TVersity, Twonky, or a Drobo for instance) will allow you to create a deeper folder structure that the PS3 can still navigate. For whatever reason, when the media is stored locally, the PS3 tends to flatten things. I think it only supports one level of sub-folders.
That is a good tip MrEverest and would work great for most people. It is probably why nobody ever posts "better media navigation" on the feature wish lists.
This is the same solution I use for the picture dilemma but when I stream HD video it commonly stutters. Between that and my wifes reticence to navigate a deep folder structure for music (she wants an "itunes like" navigation option and I can't really blame her for that) I'm stuck with keeping most of my media on the PS3 - which works very well in every way except the navigation.
In the end I should probably put together a relatively fast but cheap dedicated media server (rather than using my Gateway FX laptop) and have both it + the PS3 connected to the LAN via wire instead of Gwifi. I'm sure my wife will eventually warm to the folder structure navigation. This would solve several headaches (such as having to keep two separate media libraries, one on the PS3 and one on the machine we sync our iphones to).

As a music solution only, maybe an Apple Airport Express would work better for you and your wife. She could stream music directly from iTunes. I've owned one for years now and have given a couple as gifts. Highly recommended.
You're right, an Airport would also work well - especially for my wife.
After thinking about this more though I've come back to the idea that the PS3 should really have better navigation for media files. All these other solutions involve extra purchases or a minimum amount of technical knowledge and while I have both the money and knowledge to implement these other solutions they are really just band-aids for what the PS3 should already have.
As of right now all my music and most of my video library is on the PS3, navigating it should be easy, fast, and simple. It does have the "easy" and "simple" down but the "fast" needs to be vastly improved. With only a minor tweak to the UI the PS3 would become not only the media center of my home, but also of non-geek's homes (my father, for example, is desperate for an "all in one" solution such as this).

As far as internet radio, you can pull up Pandora.com since the last update. It's what I use for my music needs at work and on the PS3.
I just want the XMB to be updated. They need to make it faster, easier to use in game and they need to make the music organization and presentation alot better.
I agree about more demos. or at least require them for all playstation network games like xbox live requires for arcade games.
however, my greatest frustration is not being able to stream music from my computer while also playing a game or doing anything else on the ps3. the machine is a beast, so I cannot see it having issues resource wise, plus the 360 was able to do it even before that big dashboard update.
also, bring hulu back.

How about iPod support. I know Apple doesn't make it easy, but hey, the Xbox has it. Consider connecting an iPod or iPhone dock to the USB port of the PS3 and then using the Playstation to navigate your music. Including Playstation visualizations during music playback, natch.
The list of the "major" features has been released:

What do you think of it? I'm more than a little let down, but I'll hold off on forming a real opinion until I've had a chance to actually try the "improved navigation" whenever the "soon" release becomes "now".

In short, I'm not impressed. I'm especially worried that Sony appears to be introducing advertising to the XMB. That's something I never liked about the Xbox 360. I won't upgrade right away. Especially since there doesn't seem to be a supported means to downgrade the firmware.
I personally don't care, but Hulu was a huge loss for a lot of people - college kids lived off of this feature...
Needs search ability or alphabetical scrolling like an iPod for huge media folders - one by one is ridiculous
I would like all downloaded games to auto-update in the background - I'm sick of showing people hard drive based games and it just installs and downloads and installs for each one. This should be automated
And disc based games should update much faster - in fact it should automate that too, it could download all the updates and do them very fast on the fly when you put in the disc. Consoles should not have "wait to play" times! Thats for PC's! We want to put in a game and play IMMEDIATELY!
