So I'm planning on buying a tablet sometime in the future, and I've got a few questions.
Firstly: I currently use a Blackberry 9650, which I love. I'd also love the Blackberry Bridge functionality from the PlayBook. But how functional would the PlayBook be if I bought a phone that isn't a Blackberry?
Secondly: I'm not sure I'd buy into the TouchPad and WebOS (again) with it's developer support dwindling quickly. Is the app situation on WebOS as bad as it was last year?
Third question: Is Honeycomb a viable option for tablets? I know the Xoom is basically DOA, but are there any other promising options?
Fourth, final question: I've gotten the impression that the iPad is the "tablet to beat". Is that just because it's an Apple product? I mean that in the sense that anything that remotely competes with Apple is inevitably called the "iDevice killer". So is it that great? Or is it just Apple?

The iPad is indeed the tablet to beat, not because it is an Apple product but because it is the only tablet which people actually buy by million.
Then it is up to you: either you believe that Apple's customers are just iSheeps and would love whatever iCrap Steve Jobs would decide to sell, or you think that Apple's success with the iPad is linked to the fact that people who use it actually love the experience and thus that the iPad deserve its success.
If you think that the first possibility is the most likely, then you should buy whatever tablet you want and try to enjoy it despite the lack of apps.
But if you think that the vast majority of consumers are rational people with a brain, then you would understand that today, the iPad is the only tablet which is worth purchasing.
Hint: apps are by far the most important point you should consider as a tablet without a good selection of optimized apps is just a giant smartphone without a phone :)

If you need something now to tide you over, I'd say look to either a WiFi-only or refurbed 3G Galaxy Tab (lite, has cameras), a Nook Color with a class 4 or better micro SD card (simple, cost effective), or a refurbed iPad (larger screen).
If you can wait or if you want more later on, consider the TouchPad or some of the newer Android 3.1 tablets. Personally, I'm looking at the ASUS Transformer vs. the TouchPad. They've announced a 3.1 update for June for the Transformer, which is probably when they'll finally be able to restock them. Also HP has been pointing to a June release for the TouchPad. So if you can wait, I'd say look to Android 3.1 tablets or the TouchPad, if not get one of the less costly options based on your needs to tide you over until you decide on what you want.
As for apps, Android has just as many useful apps as iOS and TouchPad should have a respectable amount of the needed apps ready for it by the time it's released. You should decide on what you want to use your tablet for and make sure that the apps you need for those purposes are available before you decide for which you make your big purchase.

Regarding the second question. I would argue that developer support can only go up from here now that HP is in charge of distributing webOS based products. Palm didn't have the capital to support development, HP should be able to fill that void. We'll have to wait for the release of the Pre3 and Touchpad though.
Apple is amazing. I own 2 iPad 2 units. It really has a great screen resolution, storage is up to the buyer ie: 16, 32, 64 as you've probably noticed. It's very light to carry, and their are 240,000 various apps in the store. All of which are so useful that a library would envy.
There are many options. Good luck on your choice.
