So, I lost a Canon S90 a few nights ago.
I feel absolutely miserable about. And worst of all, it wasn't even mine, it was my girlfriend's camera. Left it in a bar after a wedding celebration for some friends. We went back the next morning to look for it, but it was gone, obviously. Ugh. Such a rotten feeling.
Have you lost an expensive gadget before and did you ever get it back?

My friend lost a brand new PSP on an airplane. A person from Florida tracked down my friend from Chicago, and delivered it in pretty expensive packaging, and express shipping.
Such a bummer! It's a good thing your girlfriend likes you. ;)
I haven't lost any equipment but I did have a Canon SLR + high quality lenses destroyed on a camping trip from a freak flood. I was devastated. I took some amazing photos of my son that weekend and all the film was destroyed.
I did eventually get a new camera body and not as nice lenses but the loss of the photos stuck with me.
Maybe it'll show up here: www.camerafound.com/

A few years ago when I was a freshman in high school, I apparently didn't close my locker and my new phone and iPod nano were stolen! Such a bad feeling. I gelt like crying all day. The only way to cheer m up was to think of getting better gadgets, and to make sure I lock my locker...
I lost my old canon ixus 80 when backpacking in australia. I left it on a coach near the Whitsundays, luckily someone handed my camera in to the driver and I was able to pick it up in Rockhampton a few days later :)
Never found it!
As I said in the original post, it was actually my girlfriend's camera. Her renter's insurance ended up covering it and she was able to buy a Canon S95 with the money -- so all things considered, she came out of the deal pretty well.
I still have my S90 -- which I didn't bring to the bar that evening.
