So I have my Flip mino HD that I got a while back. I love it's simplicity and the video quality is very good.

I just recently I bought a Sony Powershot TX5 camera, which also records HD video, but it also waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, etc. I'm about to go on a vacation to Cozumel, and I was trying to decided whether to bring both the Flip and the Powershot or just the Powershot. The advantages of just bringing the Powershot would be its waterproofness, durability, the ability to put a giant memory card in it for greater recording capacity and having one less device to take on the trip. Also, I don't have a standalone charger for the Flip, so I'd either have to bring my laptop also, or buy a charger for that. I really didn't see much advantage on the Flip side. I was thinking maybe the quality could be better on the Flip, but I haven't done enough comparisons to determine that. All I know is that the Powershot HD video quality was impressive enough to convince me to leave the Flip home. Did I make the right decision?

Sounds like you did make the right decision. Now that more cameras (and phones) have the HD video capability, I'm not seeing the need for these standalone HD video pocket camcorders. You can take video AND pictures all in one device.

BTW, you mentioned "Powershot" in your post, think you meant "Cyber-shot"? Unless Canon and Sony merged together... ;)

Oops, I guess they merged in my brain! I've been a big Canon guy for years, but decided to go with the CYBERshot this time for something a little different.
