Discussion about
So I have an EVO 4G and the Droid X, and I'm don't remember the last time I said this, but apples to apples, I really prefer Motorola's handset…
to HTC's. Yes, the Droid X is a bit larger, but it also rights a few wrongs, like doing away with those silly capacitive keys below the display, and feeling much thinner to hold. It is absolutely snappy, and the inclusion of Swype out of the box is really nice. (Too bad Swype isn't enabled by default.) I still need some more time to play around with this thing, but the Droid X is actually the first Android device I've played with that's caused me to seriously reconsider the iPhone.
I wonder how much of the "snappiness" feel has to do with the 30fps lock on the EVO? I've read good things over at XDA about responsiveness increases on the ones they've been able to release the frame rate caps on (the rev 003 Epson screened models so far). See the second vid here:

I enjoy the capacitive buttons -- what don't you like about them?
I think the EVO is as snappy as can be...I can't imagine a device performing better in terms of day-to-day use.
What else differentiates the Droid X from the EVO?

Ah, I see. I do hit the buttons by accident sometimes, but it isn't enough to matter, and plus, the phone is so damned fast, I can always get back to where I was quickly.
Agreed. I've read that before and after I've gotten my EVO, and have no once mistakenly hit one of those buttons. However, I do sometimes accidentally activate the voice search from holding the phone in landscape, but its no biggie... just hit 'Cancel', keep it moving...
what is the battery life like? How is the weight balance with the main bulk of the phone on top rather than in the bottom when held upright. Sorry for asking like that but this phon eis making me consider forging out some money to get a new one (really get titred of the HTC hero and it's sloppy performance).
Many people seem to forget Motorola's long tradition and experience with mobile devices (compared to HTC and other companies). If any company can make a rock solid high end device, it's them. I looove my Droid.
However, I can't help but acknowledge that the iPhone 4's high res display and front facing camera put it a class apart from the competition. Would I get one? No, I don't support Apple's dev policies and prefer the Android OS. But I can't wait for similar specs to show up on Android phones.

The front facing camera is a novelty. It will wear off in a few months. (if that)
An Android device will show up with a front facing camera in a few months and it will be the same deal. Very few will be video calling to each other on a regular basis.

Mehh... If more and more of these new devices include them as standard, then I think we will start to see more and more ppl using video calls. However, there should be a standard app/protocol to make these video calls, like the phone app enhanced, not these Qik/FaceTime/Fring solutions.
People should be able to look into their contacts, choose to voice or video call them right from there -- over WiFI AND the data network. If people didnt have to go find specific apps to do this, then it would take off faster... that my $.2

I agree with you completely Ryan, i also think the Droid X will be a much better phone. While i can't afford to get one at launch, i am hoping by the end of the year (assuming no other blockbuster phones come out) i plan on getting one.
Thing i love is the doing away with the Physical Keyboard (like on my Droid). I know some people live and die by it, but I'm an average build size guy with stubby Italian fingers and i cannot use it, so to see it go makes me very happy.
The only complaint ui have about swype, which i am sure will somehow be fixed, is that the latest version does not include the voice to text key of the standard keyboard. I loved that key in my car for quick replies while driving (i know bad me) and so i hope that gets fixed (unless it's there and I'm missing it)
