The overall build quality is very solid. The slider mechanism is firm and smooth. One immediately noteworthy aspect is that the white casing is in fact coated metal, as is the silver frame that makes up the case for the slide portion. HDMI out and stereo audio out make the device very friendly for playback on larger screens, and/or playing back content right on the device itself using headphones. Built-in stereo speakers allow for decent quality audio playback without headphones.
The device slides shut by pushing down on the top of the screen and sliding it closed, rendering a shape very similar to previous iterations of the Flip family. Recording of new video is done while in "closed" mode, and the camera can be opened to play back video and manage content. It feels very similar in size to the Flip Ultra, if a bit heavier. Physical interface buttons for recording and menu navigation have been replaced by a soft-interface with exactly the same layout. Part of the touchscreen displays the video image, while part of it contains the new soft-interface. The entirety of the screen is available for playback of the video when opened in "slide" mode.

So far I'm quite impressed with the device design. I haven't had the opportunity to do significant multi-environment recording with it yet.
