So after some major hassel with att I was able to get my Xbox working as a Uverse receiver and watch TV on my Xbox.

Since this service is so new dont expect an easy install by att. The first time I called I was on the phone for a good 20 minutes before att was able to understand what I was even talking about.

The catch is you have to pay a ridiculous $55 installation fee for a tech to come to your house and put a disk in your Xbox and press one button. On top of that you also have to pay for a $99 hardware kit that's just a Xbox Media Remote. All of these fees are gouging users when att could easily send a install disk in the mail.

Luckily for me I was able to get the installation fee and hardware fee waived because a tech didn't come the first time and the next tech didn't have the remote. ha! I still feel a little ripped off because I wasted 2 of my days off waiting on techs and basically ended up installing the thing myself. I guess the nice thing is, att lets you keep the install disk incase you need to reinstall. I could always put up a disk image of the disk if people show enough interest. That way you could just install it yourself and not have to pay $154 bucks. :)

As for the service, it works just like you're using a regular Uverse provided receiver. There is a little Uverse tile in the xbox menu. You get all the Xbox pop ups while watching TV and can even use the Xbox Chatpad to enter channel numbers. It works with a regular Xbox controller too, though its limited to just changing channels and skip and forward.

My set up now is an Xbox with Uverse going through a Logitech Revue (google tv). I control everything with the Logitech Mini Keyboard Controller. TV, Internet and Xbox. It's the closest I have come to my perfect set up. It get a little complicated trying to control 3 layers of interfaces, kinda like inception. This nice thing about the Revue is that you can reprogram the IR commands to any key on the keyboard. So it's pretty easily customizable.

so there is no extra hardware needed? Just the software install and an ethernet connection to the AT&T router?

I was thinking about getting this, but decided not to because I think I read somewhere that it requires an active XBox Live subscription.

What I'd really want is them to open this up to Windows Media Center. I've got 2 HTPC's in my house hooked up to gigabit lan for serving up 100's of movies, pictures, music, and Netflix. I think it was this past CES, Balmer was bragging about getting IPTV onto Media Center. I wish they'd fricken impliment it - I would just need 1 AT&T box instead of 3 any it would simplify my remote situation for each room. Having UVerse on Media Center's interface would be so nice.

Having the option to integrate Uverse directly into Media Center would be very interesting. I would be surprised that it hasn't happened altready (since it was announced nearly a year ago), but considering how slowly Microsoft moves with Media Center it is par for the course.
