SlideScreen app by Larva Labs

Anyone else using this app, either free or paid versions.

I like it, using the free version. Don't like the lack of Facebook support, but it's coming they say, and after it gets updated with it I may upgrade if I still like it.

I installed it this morning and by lunch (after 4 hours of usage) my battery was in the yellow. Don't know if this is because of all the changes I made or if this is just a data heavy app in comparison to what I used to run. I did uninstall my old Seesmic Twitter app and Weather Channel app as 2 redundant apps using data was unnecessary. Am going to reboot it before bed and see how a full charge lasts tomorrow. Normally I can keep 50% through an 8 hour work day.

I did notice that when you long press the SMS icon to start a new message that it pauses and then gives an error message and the Force Close button. Then the standard Message app comes up in compose form. May try it out with Handcent tonight to see if it fixes it.

I uninstalled it after lunch to try and preserve my battery some and when you do and hit the "home" key it gives the option to set a default home page again. You can choose the default Android Home Screen or the Sense UI screen. I chose the default Android to try it out, though without running the Sense UI you lose access to all the HTC Widgets. I reinstalled it to get back my Sense UI but am giving SlideScreen another chance. I do like it, but like coming from something else, it's different.

Honestly I wasn't to impressed by it, wasn't when they first demo'd it oh so long ago. It has some nice features, but for an app centric user like myself it makes getting in and out of things a little annoying. I like widgets and home screens. I still prefer GDE over anything out there.

I personally did not like it all it. It also made my phone run incredibly slow.

i tried the free version for a while and didn't like it at all. i like the app-style myself.

just checked out a vid of GDE. that looks awesome! how would that run on an htc hero? drastically slow it down?

I run GDE on a mytouch and for the hero it should replace sense UI as the home app. So it would probably run pretty well, it ran great on my G1. Plus they updated it recently to add even more features including visual options and a new rotation style.

good to know! since i got my hero 2 or 3 weeks ago, i've yet to pay for an app. this one looks interesting enough to pay for.

If your concerned about losing money on a bad app, you have 24 hours to return (uninstall) and get a refund immediately. Though, if you've already done this once and you want to give the app another try, you can't refund again....only once. I went 5 months with my Eris and never bought an app, probably tried a good 5 or 6 paid apps that I hated.

I'm using the paid version and I actually really like it. It's runs really smoothly on the myTouch and when I get a Nexus One, it should run great on that too since it is so much faster. I like that it brings all of my information to the homescreen so that I don't have to go looking for it elsewhere.

Also, the paid version doesn't load any ads (better battery life). You can also turn off certain features and change the frequency of updates. All of those things increase battery life. I don't look at stocks so I turned that off and the refresh frequency on my twitter, facebook, and reader items is set to a more reasonable level.

I completely agree. I have been using Slidescreen Pro for a few months now, and I love it. I like having Reader and Twitter feeds as the first thing that I see.

There are definitely some features I would like to see added, but they are really responsive to community questions and ideas on their support website.

I ditched it, as the way I wanted and needed it configured killed my battery. Once Facebook was integrated it seemed to draw way more juice and I flirted with the vanilla Home Screen for Android 1.5. Doesn't matter anymore for me, I'm on a Pre Plus now.
