I purchased a DNS-323 for the express purpose of network accessibility for my iTunes library between several iOS devices and an Apple TV. Despite having installed the NAS firefly add-on for iTunes (under firmware 1.09) I am stuck with a device that is not compatible with iTunes 10.x (I am using the most recent build, 10.2.1), despite it being released more than six months ago.
The response I received from D-Link follows:
"Because iTunes 10 uses a new communication protocol, the DNS-323 is no longer compatible with it. The DNS-323's firmware would need to be modified to add compatibility. I have contacted our product manager and I am waiting for an answer. I will update you as soon as I get an update. I do not have an estimated fix date yet."
I wish I had spent up on a Drobo.
Discussion about
SIMPLY DOES NOT DELIVER WHAT IS PROMISED!
Cannot say whether I agree or not; the issue is that I was sold a product as an iTunes server and it is not.
I still wish I had spent up on a Drobo.
Shortly after the above post went live, I received an email from D-Link, inviting me to use the beta version of firmware 1.10 with all the promises that came with it. Answer: the dammed thing still spends an indeterminate period of time not responding, leaving me with no access to a TB drive nearly full of media and an iTunes library that cannot synchronize.
