Should I pass up the iPhone 4 and stick with a 3GS, and grab an iPad? Would waiting for the next gen iPad be better? Both? Just iPhone 4? Thoughts?

I say iPhone 4 and at least next generation iPad, possibly the one after that. I have the 3GS and the wifi iPad. I'm definitely getting iPhone 4. Too big of a jump to pass up. I'm not buying another ipaod until it gets it's own retina display.

This is how I'm playing it. Upgrading to iPhone 4 from 3GS. Holding back on iPad until 2nd gen. Hopefully will we get that retina display on iPad, a camera, gyrosccope and FaceTime. The one thing bugging me is 4G. I'm signing another 2 year contract when by next year Verizon, Sprint and ATT will have some hot 4G options. Next iPhone maybe?

I'd probably stick wit the 3GS for another year, as it'll be able to handle the majority of iOS4 features for now, and you wont be eligible for the promotional upgrade price for another 6 months anyway. I don't know if I'd buy an iPad now either though, depending on what you're usage with it will be. As rmmcg34 said, if they add a higher pixel density display in next year's iPad model that'll make you regret buying now, and it'd likely be able to display 1080p content with 1:1 pixel mapping, and will certainly have the front camera added for FaceTime support. A 1080 display with the iPhone 4's pixel density would only be 5.9" by 3.3", so I'd certainly expect at least that much resolution if they adopt the same IPS panel tech for iPad.

I'd wait on the iPad. We'll probably see one with a camera and better tech specs (screen and RAM!) soon enough.
