Should i get kindle2 or nook?
Just a quick question...should i get kindle 2 or nook? I really don't know which to choose. If neither of the two, which should i get?
Thanks
Thanks
Check out the Alex ereader, its coming to Borders this spring, and it takes what is good about the nook and completes it. The bottom screen has a 3 inchish screen running full android and with the touch of a button can print any web page you are looking at to the eink screen. Plus you can listen to music as well as read, plus also being able to use it as a MID, albeit awkwardly. The only downside is the price at $100 more then either the Kindle or nook, but I think it is entirely worth it as a ereader.
Between the two, I'd rather go for the Kindle 2, but in terms of e-book reading devices, I'd wait until more e-book readers come out with Pixel Qi displays before actually deciding. The technology results in a similar trans-reflective readable in sunlight screen, but can do full motion video meaning it has a fast enough refresh to actually read a book and not get annoyed.
But if you simply can't wait, I'd go for either the Kindle 2 or the Spring Design Alex, as deinfinityx pointed out, the Alex is a Nook done right, but they're partnered with Borders instead of Barnes and Noble.

It seems to me, if the B&N people looked at the Alex, then based the Nook on it, then the Nook is the Alex done right.
I don't really see the point of the humongous lcd screen. What can it do that the narrow one can't?
I'm also trying to decide on an ereader for my dad whose eyesight is going bad.

I want some more detail here. Are you a hacker who could stream Pandora on a Nook? Do you want the buy anywhere 3G of the kindle? Does color matter for the UI? Are you a physical keyboard guy? Do DMR issues concern you? Are you willing to wait till February 22nd?
In short what are you looking for.
I know deinfinityx is looking for a full power android device and peterto seems to be sick of slow screen refreshes.
As for me, I'm in your boat. I just know of these two, the choice for myself is none of the above.

Yeah i dont really want to wait till february but i might wait and see what the apple tablet is like
Browsing your library or the book store using the cover flow style display on the color touch screen of the Nook is light years ahead of anything you can do on the Kindle. Not to mention the Nook supports side loading any epub formatted ebook or your own PDF files for display back. Can't do that on a Kindle.
Remember that the Kindle2 is a second generation product and the Nook beats it in almost all categories already.
And just look at the E readers at CES! Many of them interface with the Barnes & Noble ebook store just like the Nook so you'd be buying into a growing ecosystem. I don't see any non-Amazon devices connecting to the Kindle store.
And as for the Alex reader: If you want an Android tablet, get an Archos or a Dell mini. They do it better for cheaper. If you want an Ebook reader, get a Nook. Trying to cram both devices in to one over sized form factor makes no sense.

Actually you can load your own PDF files on the Kindle, at least the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX. Amazon added this feature with the update in December for the Kindle 2. Personally I had never used it yet to see if it worked, but I just loaded a book onto my Kindle 2 from Google Books to verify that it does work.
From what I hear from people who own them they are all happy. The nook got an update that resolved the speed issues a couple of weeks ago, and the 2 people here at work that have them both say speed is no longer an issue. Honestly you would be happy with either. I personally ordered a nook because it has future growth potential since it runs android.
Yeah i heard about the 1.1.0 update but people say its still pretty slow. idk i might wait and see what the apple tablet will be
Out of those 2 i would probably choose the nook. My dad just got one for christmas and it was pretty nice. If reading books is you one and only goal then you can go wrong with those 2. I, however am completely onboard with the spring design alex reader. On top of that pixel qi tech is coming along much faster than i though it would and a tablet with that seems like the ideal device for me. Somthing that can easily surf the web and switch to a battery saving easy on the eyes mode when i am reading stuff. So for me reading books is kind of a secondary thing so i would not get the kindle or the nook.
haha yeah im waiting to see what apple brings to the table. Hoping for a $500-800 tablet or cheaper haha
And yet you could buy 4 ebook readers for the same price. I'm sorry but a $300 netbook would be more beneficial then a $1000 giant iphone, and would have more function.
