Samsung S2: The best phone currently out there?

I've just got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's stunning! I'm surprised just how great is it (certainly compared to my old HTC Desire Z). The specs don't, though lie the S2 is the better phone but, for me, it looks butt ugly (too square I think). It also doesn't have ICS yet (though I'm sure it's only a matter of time). But is the S2 the best phone out there overall? The specs suggest so, it beats everything bar iPhone 4S's screen resolution from what I can see. It's a shame it's a little boxy.

Either way, Samsung have some great kit out there. Without really planning it I now have a TV, phone and will soon be getting a Samsung Chromebook, that and my brother has a laptop of theirs. It's looking good for Samsung right now.

Saying that, HTC might have something to say about this in the New Year, at least for mobile phones. Their upcoming devices sound like they are going to annihilate the competition with massive specs. Tablets too maybe.

What do you think?

I happen to have upgraded to a GNex straight from an HTC Desire Z, so HI5! I agree, the SII does look a bit MEH, but it's a stunning piece of kit from afar. It is incredibly thin and before the Nexus it did look quite striking, but it lacked character. The Nexus is simply stunning in my opinion. With the screen off it is essentially the Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I've never been big on Samsung and I find their build quality lacking, but I was EXTREMELY surprised with the Nexus. The SII feels quite cheap compared to it, the white one less so for some reason. I prefer HTC's designs and ethos, but it's going to take some striking design to knock the Nexus off of its pedestal, at least in my eyes. Also, I hate Touchwiz. And now, after Ice Cream Sandwich, every other OEM skin.

The competition is definitely going to ramp up in January with ICS, but I just don't see the point of Tegra 3 and quad core. I don't play games on my phone, my tablet handles that just fine. One area where both HTC and Samsung will thrash the Nexus is in the camera department, but I think Sony's got this one covered. Take a look here at some leaked shots from an upcoming Sony phone. Breathtaking.

Ultimately, I don't see myselft changing phone in the next twelve months. And when I do, it's to another Nexus. I started out with a Nexus One and I love the attention Nexus devices get. With the GNex, even more so.
