Discussion about
Sample Videos and Images
This is a thread much like that which I made for the VPC-CG11 when I originally had hoped it would come to North America. That thread can be seen here: discuss.gdgt.com/sanyo/xacti/vpc-cg11/general/Samp...
The concept of simple: This thread is a spot to pool sample images and videos from this device. If any of those stopping by or on the want list happen to come across anything, please post.
I have been looking at the internet for sample footage from the CG102 since I first set my pre-order for it via Amazon in early February.
As discussed in my last thread Finding Specs (discuss.gdgt.com/sanyo/xacti/vpc-cg102/general/Fin... ) I have reason to believe that the Asian DMX-CG110 and North American VPC-CG102 are similar camcorders--at least in core technology. Since then, I have also decided that the VPC-CG100 may also be the same.
Thus, in addition to searching for CG102 footage, I have been scouring the web for footage from the CG110 and CG100.
A few days ago the first footage from CG110 camcorders appeared on Youtube (shown below).

DISCLAIMER: I'd like to say that this is all supposition on my part: that the CG110 and CG102 ARE the same. That the software will process video the same, and that CG110 in these video tags and titles is NOT an error (prior videos on Youtube have had mispelled model numbers in their names). If these suppositions are true, however, these could be examples of the output one could expect from the VPC-CG102.

Add two more to the list.

It has arrived. I will maintain photos from this device on this set on my flickr account: www.flickr.com/photos/corgan/sets/7215762368657916...
Sample videos I have taken with this device can be found here:

I haven't, admittedly, had much time to play with it. But I've really found myself fond of the still images.
There's a lot of modes and functionality, but the transitions between them don't seem to be the cleanest. You have to know what mode you want going into filming. Switching between zoom ranges, or going into macro mode require the screen going blank or the navigation through windows. Additionally, I might say that the pistol grip form factor may not be as great as the type of grip you see on things like the Kodak PlaySPORT, Zi8 and Flip Cameras. That form factor lends itself to a lot of stability.
Some of the drawbacks include:
- NO HDMI cable in the box.
- What seems to be no USB charging.
- A slight hiss in the background of videos.
That said. I still have a lot of time to be either disappointed or elated by what this camera has to offer. Hope to write more about it in the next week or so.

video looks great. I think this blows my sony bloggie out of the water, which seems to take 2 or 3 seconds to focus. it works best on 720/60 mode, but I don't think its as good as this new sanyo.
looking forward to seeing more, as I probably won't pull the trigger on this for a few days.

Looks like that Sony suffers from a lot of "wobble" too. I always shy way from the Sony's for one major reason: lack of SD card support. I know I can always do Micro SD to Memory Stick, but I'd rather not. Despite the coolness of the swiveling head on some of the Webbies and Bloggies--I prefer this camera over that almost 100 percent.
eb1ch: I've added a video of 720@60fps. It is on Vimeo. Vimeo hasn't done a good job of showing the speed of the 60fps, so I've opened up it and all of my other videos to allow HD downloads, so you can better compare the originals. Be forewarned they range anywhere from 60 to 300MB in size.
Thanks for the Vimeo clips!!! Liked the walking into the overpass with the approaching train.
Mine is on the UPS truck for delivery. Replacing a Samsung HMX-104 that died after 14 months. I see on the japanese website they have a wide angle attachment lens jp.sanyo.com/xacti/websupport/cg100/english/index.... VCP-L07WA
Also the owner's manual is here: jp.sanyo.com/xacti/websupport/cg100/english/downlo...
Any idea how the lens attaches? Doesn't look like its threaded for filters in the pics I've seen and there are no good shots of the attachment end of the lens.

The battery really last 70 minutes for HD ? Hope it does not lose focus.... Its too cheap to be true probably its so cheap cos of battery and performs bad in low light... I can not decide on this model and: www.aiptek.eu/index.php?option=com_product&tas... difference in price would be about 100$. Aiptek more expensive. So does it support 1080 30p and lower progressive scan (720p) ?
Another issue with some of these stills is the speed at which this camera takes Photos and the speed of its shutter. The VPC-CG102 is really slow to focus and shoot, which leaves a lot of room for movement blur. For quick pointing and shooting, this camera isn't the best. In addition to these problems it takes what I consider a long time to start up and switch between modes.
Thanks for reminding me.
Not all are missing. The Vimeo ones should still be in tact. For all of the photos, I have moved my photo collection from Flickr to Zooomr temporarily in the past week, until Expono.com gets a few things sorted out.
They can be seen here: www.zooomr.com/photos/corgan/
Almost all photos in this collection were taken with the camera sans two scans (which should be evident).
