Discussion about
Replacement Ear buds
I have to agree with one of the reviewers (SirPumpkin) that there are no replacement ear buds. The headphones come with 3 pairs (small, medium, large) and though comfortable, unfortunately can come off if it snags on something - like coming out of your pocket (very very rare), or if the cord gets pulled, the ear buds stay in your ear! (uncommon).
Might I propose that a form of community based solution for this? I use the small ear buds, have never used the other ones (other than just to try on for the first time for fitting testing) - so effectively have a medium and large nearly new ear buds.
Based on good will alone and faith in this growing gdgt community, I would be willing to swap the other sizes for the security of having a 2nd set of small ear buds. International borders shouldn't be a bother because the damn things are so light.
What does everyone (anyone) else think?

I think that's a great idea. I, too have the Apple In-Ear Headphones and love them. The only problem is, I have lost one of my small earbuds. You called first dibs on the small ones, so I'll call second! I have 2 medium and 2 large that I do not use and would be willing to trade with anyone for their small ones. Let's make this happen!
Well, if you insist, thanks! I'm going make a new topic titled "Need Small Caps" and see if anything happens.
Personally, I think Apple should sell replacement earcups. I know Sennheiser has replacement cups which they sell in packs of 5 pairs of one single size. So you can lose those rubber tips like nobody's business, and still have spares lying around at home. OR at least make the Genius Bar/Authorized Service Providers stock spare earcups so you can drop in, say you need a new piece of the M size, leave a small amount of money (US$1/cup?), and leave.
I cannot believe they don't sell replacements!!! I almost lost one of my smalls at the beach yesterday luckily I saw when it came off. I think the community swappiing is a great idea. As soon as I can find my box I will be offering up my med/larges. I hope everyone who own them doesn't just use the small ones :-)
My cat ate the large earplugs that came with my Apple in-ear headphones but I found these at the Sony store and they fit even better that the apple plugs. They were 9.99$ (cdn). The model is EP-EX10A

They also had another model the EPEX1 but these do not fit on the apple hearphones.
Hope this helps,

These look good! I think I might try them out and tell you what I think! Thanks!
And Apple also sells replacements now I just got them by Fedex If I remember right they were about 15$ plus shipping for the 3 sizes. I asked the guy when I called to send an iPod touch for repair on warranty. At first i tought that they would send me the tips for the old in ear headphones since i had read here that they didn't sell them.
Yeah, Sony Hybrids are pretty much the best eartips available. Unfortunately you only get one of each size in a pack, so it's kind of expensive. You can get cheap replicas of them on eBay, here, where you get 3 pairs of S,M,L. They're not exactly the same as EPEX10A but still pretty good.

Previously I had some Shure e2c headphones - these were the replacement after the cable split after ~12 months of use.
I too lost one of the small earbuds, and the others are too large - but I figured I'd see if the e2c's soft silicone (black) earbuds fit, and lo-and-behold, they do!
They have a slightly narrower nozzle that fits well. There is still potential for them to fall off, but not as easily as the Apple buds - and I'm not bothered personally, I have a bag of 10 of these to go through. :P

I've also read that these replacement tips fit on new Apple in-ears:

Here's the post I found regarding someone trying out the Etymotic tips on the Apple in-ears:

The Etymotic eartips may fit on the nozzle, but they are a different size so I suspect they would come off and remain in the ear canal. Takes a while to fish them out with the 3.5mm jack...

Macworld Magazine recently did a review of Comply Foam replacement ear tips:
www.macworld.com/article/135748/2008/09/complytips...
They offer multiple sizes, and versions of the tips that fit various headsets, including the Apple In-Ear Headphones. I bought a set, and after a week of use, I like them better than the Apple tips. They are actually a little less comfortable (though not by much, and I think the Apple tips are the most comfortable I've used), but they seal better than the Apple tips, and I can hear noticeably better.
Recommended. There's a link to Comply in the review, but if you want to skip that, they are here:

I bought a pack of these in small. They fit exactly like the OEM ear tips that come in the packaging. tinyurl.com/ayrfve
