Discussion about
Recently got my hands on a Buffalo CloudStor.
It's basically a NAS with options to access all your content anywhere via an internet connection. Let me know if you have any questions about it!
It's more like a Slingbox since all the storage is actually on the device itself (I have a 2TB drive inside). The device itself runs a server that I can access via apps on my iPhone or iPad, or through the web via Pogoplug's website. Providing you have a decent broadband connection, the speed isn't too bad when accessing your data remotely.
The speed of the network is irrelevant - I think a lot of people make the error of thinking because it has a gigabit port, it'll do gigabit wire speeds. Look at the pathetic throughput of the gigabit-socketed Time Crapsule for example.
The speed is dependent on the CPU and networking hardware onboard the NAS.
The Cloudstor isn't exactly a speed demon in those respects, and is further limited by the additional processing it does. Looky here: www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-reviews/31467-new-...

Yeah, that's a good point and something I didn't initially consider. The extra processing and indexing of metadata is nice, but it makes the performance of this device just painful. I spent the entire weekend trying to backup my old hard drive (~320GB). After running for 48 hours, it's only 50% done.
