Don't have the 2nd Gen but have the 2008 version. I originally simply purchased the iMac basically to learn OSX and learn more linux/UNIX, but found that the more Apple products I use the happier and more impressed I am with them.
I have been a Windows based IT guy for since the late 80's and have professionally worked in IT on Windows Servers and Workstations/PC's since 92. I originally shunned all Mac's due to their prohibitively expensive costs as opposed to rolling my own Intel based PC, not to mention that they were stuck forever on the slower RISC based architecture. I'm so glad that they are on Intel now and I hope that doesn't change any time soon.

Totally agree.
Sure Apple have received worldwide recognition with the iPod platform and to an even greater extent the iPhone platform but it can't be forgotten that things really started turning around for their desktop market when they switched to the Intel architecture and they really caught Microsoft napping.
I'm also an IT professional of nearly 10 years and bought the 2nd-gen iMac sometime in the middle or 2007 even though I'm actually a dot net software developer. I've really enjoyed using the machine and have become a bit of an enthusiast.
Using VM Fusion I still have an instance of XP but unless I'm actually doing something work related I stick to Mac OS X and it is refreshing having a different interface when I'm surfing and emailing than the interface I sit at for 8 odd hours, five days a week.
