Question about double or single earphones

I ordered what I thought was a pair of headphones from Sennheiser via Amazon and was surprised when I discovered only I side produced sound. There is no attempt on Amazon or the internet to make dull old gits like me aware of the difference and sloppy people use headphones [plural] to describe this product as well as the singurlar. So now I'm trying to find out how to get the existing dead earphone replaced with a live one. Is there such a product on the market...if there is I can't find it.

I am confused. I have almost the exact same headphone (it is the headset version). It is a stereo headphone - so both sides should work. If one of the ear pieces isn't working, it is defective; and whomever sold you the headphones should replace them. Are they out of warranty or something?

Hi MtnSloth....The official title from Amazon was "Sennheiser PX 100-II Foldable Open Mini Headphone." and my research indicates that this type IS just one sided but there is no specific reference to this in the details supplied. I just returned it within the 7 day cooling off period and have ordered a more expensive DOUBLE SIDED headset now. Was I wrong ?

Sennheiser claims that they are stereo headphones on their web page, and I am pretty sure that they were correctly playing the left and right channels from my iPhone. Now I want to be sure I'm not going crazy! ;)

They are playing back the left and right channels correctly. Stereo effects confirmed with The Cars Since I Held You and It's All I Can Do . . . and I'll probably have to listen to the rest of their Candy-O album now. {said with no great regret]

Again, I have the headset version of this headphone, but the only difference should be the addition of a mic and related control. I have reviews of both headphones posted, and won't disagree that there are probably better options.

I'm getting confused now! Wikepedia says there ARE single speaker versions of headphones though they are 'less common'

1 - Amazon describe the ones I bought in the singular suggesting they are mono-auaral >Sennheiser PX 100-II Foldable Open Mini Headphone - Black<
www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-100-II-Foldable-Open-H...

2 - But a user describes them as binaural but says they often convert themselves to mono-aural
www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B002VPDOH8/ref=dp...
On this link it says >Granted, these have excellent sound but only buy if you are prepared to return every 4-5 months!
I have had to do this twice and Sennheiser are zero help (Amazon have been great though).

The issue is one of the speakers just on a whim decides to stop working thus making the headphones pretty much redundant!

Be warned! <

Did I have some faulty binaural ones !! Or are there single and double phones with the same name?

3- I've now bought some >The HD 518 open, circumaural headphones< for about £80 but I would like to get to the bottom of this and these are too 'bassy' for my taste and hearing. Can anyone help?

I've just come across a pic at reviews.cnet.com/headphones/sennheiser-px100-headp... ......of headphones with a wire to each earphone but mine were NOT like this as there was no wire in the 2nd headphone and no socket to plug a wire in. It gets more confusing as you go does it not?

Check that you have the phones plugged all the way in. It's a stereo headphone.

You haven't mentioned what you're trying to use it with.

Are you sure it's the phones? Have you tried it in anything else? I mean, at the expense of sounding a little intolerant it's not exactly rocket science to troubleshoot phones. If it's single-ear'd out of two or more different things, then it's likely faulty. If it's single-ear'd out of the computer only, either the socket is faulty or you don't have it plugged in enough.
