PRS-505 software update
Heard rumours that Sony are going to update the software of this thing to be mac compatible and more open standard-friendly... Anyone know where to get hold of the update?
It is already open standard-friendly. EPUB formats are supported, as is of course (DRM'd and unDRM'd) PDF. Calibre handles PRS-505 on my book-loading Mac. And since the Sony software won't actually load on any of my desktops (all of which run Vista64) without virtualisation, I use Calibre in Windows as well.
I just got my reader back from Sony (UK) after a warranty repair for a cracked screen. Top marks to Sony for fixing it under warranty (I was expecting a bit of a fight) but that isn't the reason for the post...
The box contained a note saying that while they were fixing my device they noticed some files which could have only been created by connecting to a mac. They have removed them and reminded me that the 505 isn't supported on Mac.

They can't come around and shoot you for using it as a UMS reader for starters. None of their business what it's got on it.
If you think that's bad, you should try Cowon, specifically the S9 - their usually overrated-by-the-nerds latest and greatest. The firmware isn't even stable enough to be able to cope with the hidden files that the Mac writes to the unit.
