Poor classic, it gets no love, and Jobs got my hopes up with that whole "we've redone the 'entire' iPod line".

I guess the classic isn't an iPod anymore...

It should at least get an SSD or something

I noticed the omission of the Classic too. My 160GB Classic is the one Apple device that can fit my entire music collection on it. My 32GB iPhone,16GB iPad, 8GB Nano all too small. And my Classic lives in my car - perfect! It didn't need a hardware refresh, I just hope they don't stop making it until there is a worthy successor.

I'm in the same boat. I don't like any other iPod, they just don't fit my needs.

Also while I agree the classic doesn't really need an update, it just annoys me that Steve Jobs apparently no longer considers the classic a real iPod.

Above all, Apple is always about the new. They don't have anything else to bring to the table in terms of a high-capacity player because of the cost of flash memory, and it's a retrograde step to try to make an HDD-based Touch (which would work like... well, an iPhone 3 with iOS 4).

Sure, some of us would pay for a >100Gb flash Touch right now, but nowhere near as much as would be worth it for Apple to carry the SKU.
