The sound is supreme, but the complete lack of podcast management tools and overall poor user interface is making me look in other directions. I still can't stand the sound quality of apple products, I'm inclined to check the Zune HD, do you think it would be a good experience?
If you value the ease of the "walled garden" approach and want a player that is tightly integrated with good management software and a great service (Zune pass) then you will love the Zune HD. Hardware and interface is slicker than the S9. This is a love it or leave it affair though. You can't do the customization of the interface like the S9 but that isn't everyone's cup o' tea anyway. The screen on both players is beautiful. The Cowon excels in compatibility, but the Zune has a rich marketplace with great podcast support.
I have a S9 and my son has a ZuneHD. We share a Zune pass and both use Zune software as podcatcher and for the subscription music. I drag and drop my stuff and he syncs with Zune software. No reason you can't have a good podcast experience with either player.
