Performance

I really want this to be a stable platform for gaming. That way I can get rid of my 360 and stick with this and my PS3 for gaming. 1.3ghz though is a little worrying. Hopefully some good benchmarks for Mass Effect 2 come out soon.

What options did you go with when ordering? Core 2 Duo? 2, 4, or 8 gb of RAM? 5400 or 7200rpm HDD or an SSD?

Went ahead and preordered.
4GB RAM
Win 7 Pro for XP mode
C2D SU7300 Processor

And dont forget, if you are a student you get 10% off.

All the rest of the stuff I left alone. Kinda pointless in upgrading the HDD if I have a external drive, and the SSD option is hideously expensive compared to the options on NewEgg (And you don't know the speeds of the SSD either). While the 1.3GHz processor is kinda disappointing, I'd can't say that I'd have a huge use for high processing power outside of games, but then again, that's what the 335 is for.

Oh and I'll eventually put in a SSD from NewEgg later down the road, more than likely a OCZ Vertex 2 or so. Now finding a sleeve for this notebook is going to be a PITA...

I'll buy one after my taxes are done and sell my 360. I think the 4gb of ram is more than enough and the Core 2 Duo is better than just one Pentium so my setup will probably cost right around the $1000 mark.

If you're worried, there's some good benchmark info in here... Apparently, it's pretty safe to overclock to 1.6GHz as well.

Macbook, eat your heart out. The m11x will destroy you. Macbook gets a 3dmark06 score of around two thousand while the m11x gets a score over six thousand. Yet the Macbook runs $500 more for one less year of warranty, a 5,400 rpm hard drive, while lacking a real GPU. Oh, and you can easily upgrade the ram and hard drive and replace the battery on your own in the M11x. You can even add an SSD to the extra mini-PCIe slot in the m11x.

o C2D processor - 1.3ghz by day, 1.6ghz by the-time-I-go-home-and-play-games
o 4GB ram - DDR3 1066mhz downclocked to 800mhz :(
o 250GB 7,200 RPM - By the time I really need an upgrade, I'll be able to buy a better performing 7200rpm 500gb drive for less than the $100 Dell wanted on top of the 250gb drive.
o Personalized nameplate - Standard but awesome (This phrase should be used more often)
o Bluetooth
o FOUR YEAR WARRANTY
o Next day shipping

Total: $1,040 after tax and shipping

This is the best thousand bucks I've ever spent. It arrives this Tuesday!

Woot.
