Palm Pre now $79.99. Is the Pixi going to be free?
Seems like with Pre being $79.99 now that Palm is going to have to be pretty aggresive with the Pixis pricing. I was expecting it to be $49.99, but now it's looking like it may be free? Any chances of it?
I asked this question in the comments of the Engadget article about the news. If the Pixi is free (or even $50 or less, which is more likely), it will sell like hotcakes. Palm just has to get it off of Sprint and onto different carriers (not because of Sprint, but because the majority of consumers usually won't change carriers for a phone).
i doubt it will blow it out of the water. its slower, smaller screen, no wifi...its on sprint. I could go on.
it really depends on what people are looking for. obviously if its free, a lot of people will choose it over the pre but i think people buying iphones will continue to do so.

People who would buy the Pixi probably wouldn't give a shit about any of the "negatives" you mentioned. The Pixi isn't aimed at the same target the Pre is.
Hopefully the new European Pre release will get Palm some much needed income, as the Pre being tied to Sprint in the USA is not helping them too well, despite selling "well."

Half of the people who by iPhone have no iterest in buying any other phone. It would not be as "fashioable".
It would be huge and leave Palm in a great position to push itself back to the front of the pack with the iPhone, HTC, and Blackberry. But I have a feeling it'll still hit at least a $99 price and probably remain on sprint.
You think that the Pixi is going to be $99 when the Pre is $79? I feel like that would be a really stupid move on Palms part.
