Shure SE215

by safaridan

Comfortable when lying down?
details
Looking for new earbuds and have been a big fan of Shure in the past - still have a pair of e4c's that are my go-to pair as I just love their sound signature. However, I always found them to be a tad uncomfortable when lying down with my ear pressed against a pillow. I don't know if any make or model would actually be comfortable for that - and trust me, that's not how I mainly listen! But, it certainly does happen when I fall asleep on a flight and with the e4c, I tend to wake up with a major...
Netgear R6300

by frankspin

Are you ready to upgrade your home network to 802.11ac?
details
Netgear has released the R6200 home router which supports the latest WiFi standard 802.11ac. Netgear is claiming that the router is capable of speeds up to 867Mbps (their R6300 is capable of 1.3Gbps). The gotcha of this though is that 802.11ac operates only in 5Ghz and at the current moment the only way to get your laptop to support it is with the A6200 usb adapter, also made by Netgear.
With the band operating at 5Ghz this means there will be less interference from other devices. Add in the... Read more →
Google Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)

Does phone security matter anymore?
details
ZTE, one of the top handset makers in the world has come out and said that it had put a back door into one of its models for use of software updates. Anyone with the password (which was available online) would be able to get access to your device and your personal information.
We have seen malware targeted at iPhone (The Rick Astley worm, the botnet that came a month after) and Android (The Fake Instagram App) and it seems that mobile devices are always under a looming threat as they get more... Read more →

Buy a Windows machine, get a free Xbox 360 (if you're a student)
details
It's that time of year again—just like last year, Microsoft is offering a free Xbox 360 system (4GB) to any student in the United States or Canada who purchases a "qualifying" Windows PC worth $699 or more ($599 in Canada). This is to catch all those kids just out of high school and getting ready for college.
The deal begins May 20 in the US, May 18 in Canada. Just show a valid student ID to one of the participating retailers for the freebie. Those "participating retailers" include Best Buy,... Read more →

FXI Technologies Cotton Candy

by marc

What would you do with the FXI Cotton Candy?
details
FXI's tiny $199 PC is set to ship later this month, and I have to admit that I want one, even though I have no idea what I'd do with it. Maybe it's just me, but the idea of a full Linux/Android PC the size of a flash drive is almost irresistible. While the specs are nothing to get too excited about, the Cotton Candy will support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and will include HDMI and USB ports, so it can be hooked up to just about any current network, keyboard and display. Admit it. You want one, too....

details
AndroidCentral has just posted an article with a statement from Sprint acknowledging that its new flagship device, the HTC Evo 4G LTE, is going to miss its anticipated launch date thanks to a patent dispute with Apple. US Customs is currently holding the Evo 4G LTE, and the AT&T One X, to ensure they do not violate patent any patents. In their statement on the Sprint community forums, Sprint has provided instructions for those who wish to cancel their pre-orders.
If you pre-ordered the Evo 4G... Read more →
HTC Google Nexus One

Google is planning to sell 5 Nexus devices via its Play Store.
details
The WSJ has gotten some information that Google may be announcing it's plan to announce 5 unlocked Nexus devices at the upcoming Google I/O event. There is no word yet on who will be making the phones but the report states they're planning to partner with a variety of OEMs to make this happen. Oh and the cherry on top, they'll be rocking the latest version of Android which at I/O will be Jelly Bean. The one thing that wasn't mentioned was which carriers this will work with but given the fact... Read more →
