okay whats the difference between the hero and the magic?

the specs seem to be the same and the only hardware difference is that the magic is rounded (both have the "chin")

Early versions of the Magic didn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the Hero has always had one. The Hero also has a 5MP camera vs. the 3.2MP camera in the Magic, and the Hero's screen has an oleophobic coating (minor detail, but I'm pretty sure the Magic doesn't have it). I might be forgetting a couple more small differences, but otherwise the phones are very similar.

Nothing. For people in the US, the Hero is on Sprint and the myTouch 3G (Magic) is on TMobile. that is the difference. Actually the myTouch 3G may have ended up with slightly less RAM but I couldn't say that for sure.

Aside from Sense UI and the old magic having less RAM, and the newer magic having a tiny bit more, they are damn near identical. Actually the only physical difference in the US aside from a few cosmetics would be the touch sensitive buttons.
