Of the things (potentially) being launched tomorrow, I'm probably most excited about finally getting iOS 4 on the iPad.

After using iOS 4 on my iPhones for the past few months, having been stuck with iOS 3 on the iPad has been a real bummer -- and being that Apple promised iOS 4 for iPad for fall, and this is undoubtedly the event where we'll find out when we'll be getting it (and what they've done to optimize it for the tablet experience).

I'd use the current iteration of iOS 4 on the ipad. after using the iphone 4 all day and toggling over to the iPad, it's frustrating trying to work into two different OS's.

I hope it's released soon! What worries me though is that there have been no developer betters for iOS 4.1 on the iPad. I don't think that bodes well for a release tomorrow! Here's to hoping we're surprised!

Yeah the lack of developer releases would indicate that this is still over a month out.

I'm just assuming for now that this will be part of the event. When Apple says "fall" it typically means "September" (unlike other vendors who may mean "early December". I expect that an event will be necessary in order to highlight how they have adapted iOS4 capabilities for the larger screen real estate of the iPad, and this would be the closest event to "fall". I imagine Steve will outline the "amazing, magical" features, "all in the palm of your hand", followed by an availability date.

Of equal interest is what those special iOS4 features might be. I would be very interested in seeing is something along the lines of a "slide over" windowing capability for use by IM and social media apps. Having to jump to another window to chat while I am researching and such is quite a pain.

The slide window idea sounds plausible. Or something like a four finger swipe down like what I do on my MacBook Pro multitouch pad to show all of the apps running in a titled view.

Part of me doubts they will implement something like this, simply to avoid the flack they will get over it's similarity to Android's shade. Then again they may just present it with different words and call it revolutionary. The shade UI mechanic is amazing, but Apple may be able to come up with something a little more in line with their current offerings. Maybe something similar to dashboard as has been rumored. It could work well with multiple chat windows opened in widget like boxes. I think I would personally prefer the shade, then again Apple usually doesn't disappoint with their UI choices.

what I find particularly tiresome is having to continually find apps
true search can do this hoping apple have a pipework scheme
for improving folders visibility as on the iphone it's not
as visual appealing if you have many folders

Is there any credible rumour that this will happen? Would love to see it but I haven't seen or heard tell anywhere that it would be the case.

Unless some new streaming tech necessary for whatever else they're launching is in 4.1? But so far the betas suggest not...

As an iPad user since day 1, I'm looking forward to when I can update my iPad to iOS4 for true multitasking. I've got down the close this app, open another, go back to other app, close it again, go back to another app, re-open original app again. Fortunately, some apps (like Reeder for iPad) keep your place when you close it, but it would still be nice to have it just run in the background.

Let's see what they announce tomorrow morning.
