There is a 16GB option, and that is more than enough for most developers.

Definitely enough for consumers, I guess in my experience the worst program I worked with required 12gb of ram. Perhaps I just like optimizing code haha

Given that Apple has increasingly been stripping away their machines down into disposable consumerica(sic) - where let's face it, the money is at - I don't see anything particularly surprising about it.

Apple technical enthusiasts (who it could be argued are almost an oxymoron) will no doubt find workarounds and feel a sense of achievement.

You either buy into Apple's take of consumer-orientated trinkets or you choose real working computers from HP, Dell, or Lenovo if you're an actual professional. It's not like you don't have a choice.
