New UI coming to the old TiVos?

I was excited to read about the new TiVo user interface that is part of the Premiere. Does anyone know if this redesigned (and HD I believe?) interface is coming in a future update to the Series 3 units?

Doesn't look like it, according to Engadget the new UI is exclusive to the Series4 TiVo units. If it's consolation they did mention that FrameChannel and Pandora will be making their way to the Series3 though.

...but is the TivoHD a series3 box? I'm not sure it is and after looking at the comparisons there's no real difference between the Premiere and the HD units.

I guess I'll just wait.

The TivoHD is a Series3 box with a smaller hard drive, M-Card support and other changes that were more less cosmetic but allowed them to justify a lower price. It has a Broadcom BCM7038 CPU and 128MB of RAM available to the CPU (more for the encoders - not sure how much total).

The Premiere (Series 4) has a Broadcom BCM7413 CPU and 512MB (not sure what is available to the processor and if there is more for the encoders).

Basically the Series 4 is a beefier hardware platform to drive the new UI, to do basically the same thing in a possibly better way.

Both the Tivo Series 3 and Tivo HD are "series 3" boxes. The new Premiere models coming out are the only Series 4 units currently.

Based on literature I've read elsewhere Tivo has pretty firm plans NOT to release the new HD interface to the Series 3 units. I'm assuming it would be a major firmware/kernel update to do it, if they did. Also, the new QWERTY remote is not going to be available either.

They are not releasing the new interface simply because the older models do not have enough processing power run it smoothly.

Actually according to CNet (and other sources) the Qwerty remote will work with the Series 3 devices as it will use a bluetooth dongle connected to the USB.
