New Mytouch 3G=new build prop=app breakage

For all those who want the new Mytouch with the increased RAM and 3.5mm head jack, there is a lot of issues with it that hopefully will be fixed with an update. Most of the issues are centered around app breakage and market problems. Since they updated the phones build prop a lot of apps are missing from the market, namely paid apps that i bought, and some just don't work like Google Voice. Granted this phone has technically only been out for a week or so, so an update could be in the pipes to help fix the issues, Otherwise it is a much improved phone over the original Mytouch 3G

Have you let T-Mobile know about the issues? They seem a little funky to me. I didn't know that the apps in the store were limited based on your phone (besides carrier-specific apps). I just thought that all of the apps were available to each handset and that the dev had to add a note if it doesn't work with a specific device. Are you sure that the apps are still in the market and that they are not discontinued in some way?

Yeah they are still in the market, I can find them on my G1, since this phone just came out the devs may not have realized that the apps where not compatible with the phone, since in essence it is a new phone, higher RAM, new Donut build, so it may just take some time to get the specific apps to update to all phones. There are already people posting about it on the tmobile forums so I am not worried about it. Plus with updates to 2.1 coming in a few months that should even out the build props, they probably had to change it to incorporate the higher amount of RAM and 3.5 jack.

Weird stuff. Kind of a bummer, especially because some of the apps were paid ones. Yeah hopefully when 2.1 comes to these devices, it'll even things out...and hopefully it comes to my less capable myTouch.

They should be getting the upgrades, yours is just as capable as mine, minus about 100 RAM, which might be a lot but I could run eclair on my G1 and that only had 128mb so I think your safe.

That's true. The fact that the G1 has stuck around so long (in tech-time) is a pretty great testament to HTC and Google's partnership.

Well after 12 hours of use, I must say this thing flies still. I have around 70-100mb of RAM free at any given time, which is more then enough IMO to run most apps seemlessly. I have flyscreen running in the background(for those who don't know flyscreen replaces the lock screen with widgets of feeds like gdgt which is stock in the app), and I run GDE which is a 3d home replacment app, both of which have not had many issues. Like I mentioned before there is a little app breakage with some apps, I have gotten a few force closes but not enough to warrant me to get annoyed(I am used to them running Cyanogens beta roms).

As for swype, it took me a bit to get used to it, but I highly recomend it. I am typing out sentences so much faster then I was just typing them, Hardware keyboard still has it beat but for my use it works wonders. All in all a great improvment to the mytouch from where it started.
