Or it could just be in response to the Zune HD dropping in price, they could have a premium when they were the only one, now that the Zune HD is a competitor it will be harder for them to charge so much for the touches.

I'd recommend getting them from Costco... same price but with 90 day satisfaction guarantee... return for any reason, even if all you want is a shiny new screen or to get around a dead pixel.


If you get a 3rd Gen iPod Touch now you won't be able to jailbreak it (Apple has stopped signing 3.1.2 firmware). If you don't care about jailbreaking and just want a media player... the ZuneHD is arguably a better media player for your money. The common refrain heard around the net is "the ZuneHD is a better MP3 player, but the iPod is a better pocket computer."

I just bought a 32Gb Touch on Feb 19 from Best Buy. It had the 3.1.2 firmware. When I connected it to iTunes it asked me to upgrade..which I did NOT. I was then able to jailbreak it no problem. Love it so far. This is my first Apple product.

Yeah, Apple has pretty much established a pattern of September updates for the iPod touch line. I doubt we'll see anything for 7 months or so.
