I can hardly remember, but I don't think it was too bad. I'd say at least 8-10 hours of playback time. It had a charging cradle that was probably 2-3 times larger than the device itself, so was a little annoying to charge.

I had the Nomad II ( gdgt.com/creative/nomad/ii/ ). It really amazed others who saw it - they were still carrying Sony Discman CD players around! I had to search hard to find a store that even knew what an "MP3 player" was. Wow, hard to believe how much things have changed in 10 yrs! Three years later in 2003 I bought an ipod and went from 32MB to 30GB overnight :) Still have my Nomad somewhere in a desk drawer.
