MWC 2012 Predictions?

So MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2012 is just days away now. What are you expecting to see from the show? Any big announcements? Personally, I'm *hoping* for some more news on Windows Phone 8, considering the Windows 8 CP goes live on the 29th. What about you?

I can't wait! I have long since been due an upgrade, I'm running a HTC Hero android (Ancient in mobile terms) and an original Samsung Galaxy S which is perfectly decent to be fair, but the fact that it's now approaching 2 years since it launched I'm thinking I'm overdue. The Galaxy Nexus very nearly tempted me over but I have heard mixed reports on battery life and I'm not bothered upgrading to a device that doesn't run ICS as standard... so the Note is out.

The obvious one I'd love to see would of course be the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but as of now it doesn't seem we'll even see an announcement in that regard... One can always hope!

Samsung will have to fight hard and bring it to the table if they want to retain the smartphone crown. They have plenty to answer for and a lot of people with very high expectations; If not a Galaxy SIII I'd like to see less rehashed models of old phones / midrange versions of their top of the line phones and more news on their big guns. I'm sitting here with my wallet in my hand looking for someone to take my money, c'mon guys who wants it!?

HTC had a bit of a lapse this year and I'd expect them to be cooking something decent with the aim of a comeback. I'm keeping my eye on them... whatever they do announce though I'd like to see some better choices made on the design front. I'm not liking any of their recent generic curvy cutesy designed phones. I'd like to see something that looks worthy of the high end price you pay.

I'm also interested to see what's to come from Windows Phone. I haven't owned one but I have to say, by just playing around with one in a shop I was left very very impressed. I think it's a very very very good looking and intuitive UI and it runs brilliantly, very very smooth. I think it deserves some attention. I'd like to see the hardware catch up a bit here - With Nokia at its side it should be interesting to see what else there is to come.

Can't wait to see all the new hardware and developments that we can expect to see rolling out over the next year. NFC is an obvious one and I'm eager to see more practical uses proposed for the technology. Wireless charging! We're almost there. HTC had a surface based charger built into the rezound - I'm surprised as it didn't get as much attention as I would have expected, but I can't wait to see what further developments we can expect in this field.

I'm running out of things here, but lastly I might mention the waterproof coating which we saw demonstrated earlier in the year. Could 2012 be the year we get to answer the phone in the shower?
