Microsoft Pink has officially been revealed to be two Sharp-made device, the Kin One and the Kin Two.
I'm not sure what to think of these devices, but didn't Microsoft used to always say that they wanted to stay out of the handset business? What do you think?
Yeah, it's definitely incorporating some nice Zune and Sidekick aspects, but in terms of cost... if it's a feature-phone, it will not require a data plan, and as a result, will be much cheaper than a lot of the more powerful pones even if the retail price is $100-$200.
Yeah, you're right. It just seems so limited relative to the competition if they price it that way. Feature-phones do not require data plans, but I guess they are pegging this to be more than a feature-phone.
I think for better or for worse phones like these make it increasingly difficult to draw a strict boundary between smartphones and featurephones. Probably not a meaningful distinction anymore, now we just have a spectrum of mobile devices ranging from ones that basically just do calling and texting all the way up to stuff like the iPhone and Nexus One (for example).
This seems like a perfect phone for my Mom. My little sister has a Zune HD 16GB so they could probably share songs and such and it has social features that will hopefully have a data plan that cost less then a smartphone data plan.
