Message to attendees of gdgt live in New York

As stated in the invite:

"Doors open at 7pm ET. There will likely be a line at first but once the doors open, the line moves quickly."

I'm afraid not. The line took forever. The choice of T-Shirt or Phone case was moot, since they ran out before I got in the door. Even once I got inside the hall was much too crowded to move around. There also seemed to be fewer tables than promised. Just wasn't worth attending.

Unfortunately your response is true. I was looking outside the window and public still stood outside even if it was dark. I believe press and media participation was certainly of more importance to gdgt (for obvious reasons). Thus it made sense to allow them in early. But since there were too many invites given out to both media and public, the media and VIP line should have been stopped right at 7 p.m. allowing public to go in.

Also, the swag, goodies, t-shirt, and all giveaways and contests should have been strictly limited to public. They are gdgt's advertising face. Press and Media is already doing that through their papers, websites, and television!!

But the staff, coordinators still tried their best and avoided any chaos. I just wished that the space were a little bit bigger AND a few more companies participated.

All in all, I found the event quite fun. I think I'll attend again next and I'll again make sure I am the first one in the line (bragging). I'll surely carry an umbrella next time though.

Now I just hope I win something, whenever the "I want" list winners get notified :)

That's disheartening to hear, especially since I am planning a trip to see the next Live in Seattle :\

Hopefully you'll have better luck in Seattle. With any luck they'll learn something from this but the venue is probably booked already. This venue was way too small. They opened the doors to public at 7 but it filled immediately and there after only allowed people in to replace those leaving.
