Loud Fan Noise - Anyone else?
Anyone else having loud fan noise? I have a 40GB and when the fan kicks in it is very loud. It really ruins quiet movies. It kicks on after 10 + minutes and when doing anything (standard DVD, gaming, music etc). It really is quite annoying and I'm trying to decide if I should return it. It sits outside entertainment cabinet vertically on tile in a room that is 72 to 80 degrees.
maybe they'll implement some type of survivor sink or swim vote out mechanism - though I'm sure I would surely be cast out as well...
I doubt it, we have been very mature about the posts. I doubt the true fanboys would last long on here and get banned pretty quick.
whaaa? I tought you and coologuy1957 were mods since you have posted in every article I have read here today :P
If only, we usually just have long convo's since we are both bored.
ya, you must be following us cuz we only post on like 10 items regularly... the rest is spotty at best..
do you like what we say though? I could use some more constructive criticism :)

I meant outside of you! sometimes it seems like we're the only two people on here...
lucky! I like the idea and promise of Android but have no first hand experience with it. Is it coming to Sprint any time soon?
Probably by the end of the year as the Hero, but i don't know what sprint will call it.
Probably close to $200, check out the HTC hero on here or watch some videos you will be impressed.
I hadn't looked at it because I thought it was the same as the T-Mobile myTouch Pro... My co-worker has that and it looks sweet
Oh no, has a skinned UI and a little more stylish then the Mytouch.
That would be a no, the only two that i know of that do is the Morrison going to tmo, and the sholes going to Verizon.
we've had some words but nothing major.
they were mostly just annoyed at me because I was annoyed at their (sometimes) slow response time and before I knew how to use the site and was asking them for this and that and to add items..
in fact, I would have been annoyed with me!

but you think you'll like the hero's touch-keyboard more than the iPhones? I haven't been very impressed with my iPhone typing sessions on friends devices...
Well i don't mind it, i use it occasionally but i would never give up my G1's hardware keyboard.
Well true, my plan is to have two phones, one for messing with, my G1 because of the keyboard, and one for taking to work just for playing games, apps the galaxy
got you.... and having phone service for both? that would be pretty expensive right? and you want a zii?! that is a lot of PMP love!
No just switch the sim card out, i know sprint doesn't have those which sucks for you, yeah i basically want anything android.
lol - a negative comment from a guy going by Slugworth! There's already plenty of feedback about the PS3 fan noise in here so I imagine you've had your fill on it as have I. I already mentioned twice my 20GB PS3 is pretty quiet and everyone other model seems to be different. Also, we all have our own idea of what quiet is. After putting up with an original 360 for so long, live orchestra seems quaint by comparison!
Besides this is a social site and we're just being sociable... you should try it, its pretty good times...

First off, my comment is not negative but constructive. I started this thread and get updated when any comments regarding the PS3 fan noise is posted. You guys come on here and all of a sudden I'm being inundated with e-mails of your discussion about something that has nothing to do with the thread. Your using the thread as if it was Instant Messenger. Negative? No. Just common sense. Want to talk about Nokia phones? Start a Nokia phone thread.
In all honesty, your banter is bringing down the site. Think about it. You're using the thread for other purposes than for which it was started, whether you feel that the purpose is defunct or not. Anyone getting notices of your unrelated posts are going to eventually unsubscribe as the site no longer serves its intended purpose. Repeat the above numerous times and people are eventually going to stop using it altogether and go somewhere else. Also, when people get down to your posts, if ever, they will stop reading.
As for being sociable, I'm on Facebook and am quite sociable there. I'm also on Digg. Those places serve a more social purpose. I'm not being a grump, just pragmatic.

LOL - our "banter" is bringing down a SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE..... Honestly, from reading your report I think if you unsubscribed that wouldn't be so bad. It will be a great filtering system what you suggest...
Obviously, every convo on here starts off about a specific piece of technology and comparisons and contrasts are bound to happen. Then we compare to another console. Then that becomes an analogy about the iPhone vs the Storm. Then the underlying OS of that phone vs Android. The fact is we know so much about so many different gadgets on here we just end up talking about all of them in almost every post! And you know what? Thats the fun of it! I just told deinfinityx yesterday that we've been talking about the xbox more on the PS3 threads and the PS3 more on the xbox thread. No one complains though because thats what you do.
In fact you don't just start a Nokia topic on a Nokia phone page. I started a Zune HD topic on the iPod Touch page and its led to some great discussions. So no, I must say you are incorrect.
And I get an update about every topic I start too and its not a big deal at all. In fact, I just browse them without looking in them because in gmail they just increment the number and its no big deal at all. Again, we are having fun. If you are not then maybe the sites not for you....

This site WAS for me until you started using my topic as a freeform conversation with someone about phones. How that relates to PS3 fan noise escapes me. The end result is my having to turn off my e-mail notifications because your banter is, in effect, spamming me. Not real fun when I decide to check my e-mail via my phone.
Other sites are moderated. Apparently, this one isn't.
I will take your advice and unsubscribe if that is at all possible. It is a shame because I've found some great advice on here. But then that advice should not be locked up behind a username and password anyway so it really isn't a bad thing to not be on this site. Google searches suffice.

Its easy to see how we transitioned:
start halfway down on page 2
I posted about my PS3 quietness
we speculated on if the Slim would be quieter (found evidence it is)
we compared the PS3s hardware flaws to the 360s (which are much worse)
we commented how we can talk about both and how thats what makes this site great (no fanboys)
wondered how mods would handle fanboys
and so on...
I really wish us talking didn't make your phone go crazy but theres no way to fix it other than completely turning off email alerts?

I'm only saying because I've posted a million things on a million topics and you are the only one who has said anything about this... Either I'm annoying the crap out of everyone or they found a work around or something....
...Now to get back on topic.
I have a 60GB model (BC, baby!). I have my PS3 in a home theater console with pretty much everything else (HT DVD, DVR, 360, Wii). I usually play with the front glass doors open for venting. I've had my daughter turn on the PS3 with the controller and it'll be on in the console with the doors closed. About 2 hours later, I can hear the PS3 going at it with turbo speed! At that point, I'd just open up the front doors, pop in a game, and go at it. In about 30 mins or so, the fan(s) start slowing down.
The noise doesn't bother me. I usually play with the volume up anyway, sometimes with surround sound. Is everyone playing with the game on mute or something?
Anyway, instead of having the PS3 vertically, try setting it horizontally. If you like it vertical, try giving it more venting space from the bottom. Use some old CD cases, wood, or tape up some pennies or something to make a spacer. That awesome 2 or 3 mm of space just won't cut it in some situations.

Ya, when I play at normal volume, the PS3 disappears into the background. Its not very loud to begin with and we probably have the loudest ones (the original models).
True, I treat my PS3 like a newborn and the 360 like an ugly stepchild too! LOL - just kidding, I treat the 360 just fine and give it lots of room to breathe but it still breaks!!
My 40gb PS3 is very loud. I came up with an ingenious solution. I got a long HDMI cable and now I leave my system outside my room and just run the cables under the door.
It is quite annoying though. I was even considering selling it and buying the new Slim. I also know that 80gb models dont have this problem. They stay quiet even when the room temp is very high.

No. I turned off the e-mail notifications thanks to you.
Now that this thread is back on track, I'd like to post an update. I bought the slim model and the difference in fan noise is major. I tested game playing and BD playback. The slim is almost completely silent. You have to put your ear up to the slim to hear any fan. Very pleased!

I get so few thanks around here, its nice to finally get some.......
A silent Slim is a revelation too... seems like the best reason to get one so far except most replies on here were that people couldn't hear there PS3s to begin with.....

all these sold ps3 fats should make sony happy... lots of even cheaper ps3's for us poor folk to pick up!!!
Actually that might skew their sold models thing, but then again they count every model they ship.
