Logic board

Did anybody else have their logic board get fried on their 5th gen iPod? Mine burned out after about 2 years. You can tell if it's the logic board because the songs will play and you'll see it come across on the screen, but it won't send out any audio unless you press down on the bottom right corner really hard.

Mine hasn't died yet, however you can replace these things fairly easily. www.ifixit.com is a very good resource!

I looked into it, but the part was about 80 bucks and there was no guarantee that it would get up and running again perfectly so I've opted to save up for an iPod classic 120gb. I was curious to know how many other people have encountered this problem.

I've had mine close to four years now. never had any problems with it. still works as good as it did out of the box.

I've had mine for a little over 4 years now, and the only thing wrong is the screen. My screen has some random black/red lines throughout it, but as i only use it for listening to music while driving - it isn't the end of the world. Come to think of it, leaving it in the Florida heat all these years might have caused it.

How are you sure this is the logic board? If the logic board was bad your ipod wouldn't turn on, just give you a sad face. Sounds like a bad connection is all, or a bad audio jack. Audio jack is only $30 on ifixit, and I'm sure way cheaper on ebay. I've done this fix myself on mine, along with other repairs, fairly simple, hardest part will be opening the ipod.

It wasn't just the audio jack, sound wouldn't come through any accessories that connected to the dock either. I did research on it and a lot of the people had the same issues. I even eventually broke it open and took a look for myself since it was dead anyway. The resulting issue was a tiny piece on the logic board coming loose, which is why it would start crackling and momentarily work if I pressed hard on the bottom right corner.

I'm not sure what's going on with mine, All audio output makes my speakers sound like they're blown, be it from the headphone jack or from the dock connector. Any ideas? It's about three and a half years old, so I'm (unfortunately) outside of my Protection from Best Buy. Oh well, they got me 1 new one already.....
