lol 630 minutes surprisingly doesn't sound very long, but when you change it to 10.5 hours from now it sounds like FOREVER.

Haha I wonder if Steve Jobs is going to wait til the end of the keynote to introduce the Tablet (if there really is a tablet lol)

If he pulls it out of his pocket or jeans like he did with the Nano launch, that would be impressive! lol

Jasons tweets seemed a bit strange. Do apple send out products to beta testers? Why would Jason be a beta tester?

I think the main story is the evolution of the Apple mobile computing platform.

Look for Jobs to talk about improvements to the iPhone and iTouch that will join with the iSlate in being the preferred mobile devices of choice.

Certainly, for those without the budget for the high-end tablet, will still be able to read texts on their iTouch. If it's a medical intern on a limited budget, Wi-Fi will suffice for communication, since most hospital have wireless infrastructure.

Right now the Android platform is fractured, and the capabilities of your device depend upon what version of Android you're running and what the manufacturer added.

More than the device itself I am interested in seeing how Jobs spins why we need it. I love the idea of a slate style computer, but have yet to find one that is truly usable in the ways I want it to be. Apple and Jobs have stuck pretty well to the plan of not releasing a product isn't going to succeed. Granted it seems like anything they release could succeed despite it be good or not sometimes. As much as it pains me to admitt it though, Apple really does push the envolope fairly regularly.

What is this thing going to do that is going to make me want it anymore than the many other slate devices that I have used and have been dissapointed in? I'll tell you one thing, running the iPhone OS is not going to be that thing. After using the iPhone long enough to get bored with, what I consider to be, a simplistic and mostly boring OS if this device runs nearly the identical software I can guarantee you I will most likely not be buying it.

I agree with you on this. I talked about the tablet over dinner with a friend of mine and honestly I found it hard to explain why it would be successful and why we would need it, especially when a majority of touch-computing efforts in the market have fallen short.

I have to say I am impressed with how Apple is able to keep this so quiet. Sure we've heard about the Content deals, etc. It's great marketing, to keep everyone guessing and is another reason why you have to like the way they roll out product. Like them or hate them. Let's hope it's not another HIFI and sock rollout. It's fun either way, flop or hit.

I gotta say, so far, I'm not impressed. Where are these amazing new UI paradigms that we were hearing about?

I have to agree. I'm not that keen on Apple in general, but this thing just looks like an oversized iPhone running something closer to a full OS. And I can't imagine that it will be easy to type on.

I think it'll be fine to type on. The only reason I think it's hard to type on the iPhone is because the keyboard is physically too small. The touchscreen is fine enough, and the iPad has a full size keyboard.

I admit that I'm already thinking about gifting my netbook to my brother so I can "make room" for this. I don't really need it but ... it just looks like fun to use.

I just want to know costs and if I can only install apps from the app store on it or not. It sounds like that'll be the case.

Ditto. If it's a decent price it may be worth it, but I haven't seen anything worth a premium price. Not going to form too much of an opinion till i see it in someone other than steves hands though.

Best way forward. I can't see a major compelling reason to get this.

I wish they'd tell us more about that processor.

The home screen diossapoints me with its very iPhone UI. Apps look pretty good though.Different than either iphone or osx

1.5. pounds is light for a netbook, but heavy for something that you're going to hold in your hands. I've been down that road with the u810. Your arms tire a lot quicker than you'd think, holding that kind of weight.

Agreed. I will probably use it more for couch surfing than anything. Once again coming down to price. I'm not paying $1000 for a couch web surfing machine.

I wonder if that 10 hours battery time is with all features turned on? Not sure how Apple usually plays such statements, but I could imagine it dipping some with wi-fi, bluetooth, etc. all running while watching a video...

manveru

He said a month of standby time so I would assume that 10 hour battery life is with normal usage.

"normal use"..... For who. Not this crowd I bet.

tatsumaki

If that's true, he should be touting the battery more than their own processor. Battery tech is so lame...

manveru

You're right, probably not normal use for this crowd, but at least we know that it's not 10 hours of standby.

Think this will make certain apps price sky rocket. I'm going to charge a lot more i I have to develop for two platforms.

So... it's a big iPod Touch. Not saying that's a bad thing, but still. How is this a big deal? Especially if the pricing is rather prohibitive.

Because it's Apple... Isn't everything they do a big deal...

It's cool, just don't think it's "revolutionary".

And no one has integrated software and hardware like this in this form factor before.

What's revolutionary is that they didn't just slap in a desktop OS & call it a day, the reason all those tablets with win xp never caught on. When Balmer was showing off the new HP tablet, did he also release a new version of Microsoft Office, with a new UI just for a tablet?

Nate

Nope. They slapped a phone OS on it and called it a day.

I couldn't agree more. There must be "one more thing" coming in regards to capabilties. Because it's nothing more than a bigger screen size so far.
