It's been almost a year since this was added, and not one shred of news... so I guess it has been scrapped? I could cry. :.

There was as retailer importing them to the US. I almost bought one just for the hell of it.

Oh, so I guess I was dumb to hope it would ever be sold here. :( There used to be a company that would convert Japanese palmtops and laptops and sell them in the US, but I can't remember their name and my Google-fu must be really weak these days as I can't seem to find the magical search query that will bring them up.

Any chance you remember? It would probably be a really bad idea to bother with something that is android 1.6 with no hope of ever getting any official updates and possibly no way to install alternate ROMs that support the hardware, but I'm curious. If the price was low enough, it might be worth using it for my intended purposes as-is.

That's not the one I am thinking of. It looks like those people just import. The company I am thinking of went to the trouble of modifying the software to make sure it was all in English and they would sometimes remap keyboards and such. I think the name may have started with an i. A coworker of mine had a mini Sony device he had bought through them back in 2005 which was pretty killer for its time.

I guess I should get back in the habit of bookmarking things. :/

You could always change it to English yourself.

I found this guide.

Oh, wow, that's easy. Now I am tempted. :) Maybe I can find a used one at a reasonable price.

Never fear better smartphone are on the way. I do hope Sharp refreshes this form factor with better guts.

Well, I didn't want it as a phone, but as a pocketable writing device that ran android. I'm still trying to relive the glory days of my Diamond Mako, aka Psion Revo.
