It looks like I still need a Winmo 6.5 phone. That, or a Blackberry.
After a few weeks without the HD2, I realised I need proper Exchange on a phone - not the Fisher-Price version of it on the iPhone, the half-ass on Droid or the bugtastic equivalent on the N900 - which are my other phones. And so, it comes down to either Blackberry + BESE or a Windows Mobile 6.5 device.
That BESE is now free, and clients are also free as long as you're on an Enterprise contract is actually pretty darned attractive. Thank you Apple at least for scaring RIM into that move.
On the other hand, there is 6.5. Seems like the HD2 is still better than anything I can buy from RIM, although the handset management & security aspect is slightly weaker than RIM. My HD2 suffered a, well, literal 'crapping-out' (or should it be crapping-in) when I, er, dropped it in the you-know-what. I'm wondering if I should replace like for like or go for something else.
The last BB's I had were the first Bolds, which were falling apart on me within months. That, combined with poor battery life (and when making use of spare batteries, constantly breaking battery compartment latches) and other issues (extreme heat, etc) put me off RIM for a while. However I would imagine things are better sorted out now, hopefully.
What I really need out of this is a well built phone able to stand up to heavy daily use, a solid phone stack and solid Exchange messaging / integration / security - then the rest should be as good as possible. I run an Exchange 2007 cluster: No intention to move to 2010 until about the 2012 timeframe. I have spare hardware and/or VMS's to run BES without issues, and from a technology assurance standpoint, I hugely prefer the back-end of the Blackberries.
So, what should my top handset pick be?

Darn the lack of edits beyond 5 minutes.
Also, while the HD2 is a powerhouse what I'd really like on a messaging phone is a 5-row keyboard. Failing that, something like the Bold keyboard will suffice - but I am not actually that keen on a touch keyboard.
And I also forgot to say that it should be available in the UK.

Ah OK.
Hmmmm... Not so keen on the TP2 at this point in time, although I guess I'll have to take another look at it.
