It is not a touch screen

It should be called a "push screen". You have to push hard on the screen to register a contact. Beyond the obvious making the keyboard extremely slow to use is that you also have to push to activate or select an item. So if you want to pick a ringtone from the list, for example, you have to push down (hard) to scroll the list, but wait, that will also select the ringtone where you pushed. LG should rename the product something like LG EnV Push to be honest. They should also update the interface so that you can scroll lists without having to slide on the items that have to be selected. Some simple up/down arrows would help.

There isnt much force needed for me to touch something. I have found the point where you can touch it and nothing will be selected, but that was only while purposefully looking for it.

I usually use the inside keyboard or the outside virtual numpad and the numpad is fine for me.

what phone are you coming from?

I think you don't have that great a grasp on the difference between a resistive touch screen and a capacative screen. Capacative screens (like the Iphone, G1/G2, and also many laptop touchpads) use the current from your finger (also batteries) to sense location of input. This means that you have to use your fingertip, and that input with, say, your fingernail or a non-metallic stylus is impossible. Resistive touch screens require a bit of force to register where the input is coming from, so a light tap or press. The Env Touch has a resistive screen, and a very good one at that. What this means is that while use of the phone is similar to the iphone or other capacative screen devices, it cannot be used in exactly the same way. Personally, I use the edge of my fingernails to be most accurate, such as scrolling through lists or typing. Like almost all touch interfaces, it takes a bit of getting used to, but the touch settings should help. Be sure to calibrate it for you, and keep the calibration current.

Oh, if you do use your fingernail, be sure to apply a screen cover.

I couldn't disagree more. This is the most responsive resistive touch screen I have ever used. Contrapaul is right in saying that you just have to use it in a slightly different way.

Yeah... you either have a dreadful glitch on your particular phone or you have bad perception. It's good for me, maybe you're just used to the iPhone, which registers a contact when you breathe on it.

I had a glitch in the first phone and Verizon was cool about letting me exchange it for another phone.

I got this phone yesterday. I'm still not used to it, since this is my first touchscreen phone, so I'm still having trouble trying to scroll through things without selecting something. Almost got it, though.

i am not crazy about doing serious typing on a touch screen of ANY kind. but seriously, this screen is truly awesome, in my opinion, for what i DO use it for. i am a girl and have small fingers but trying to type on this screen (or ANY touch screen) is an exercise in frustration for me. but i LOVE the touch answer, the touch screen-lock, the ability to have shortcuts so close at hand and touchable. it's a very navigable system via the touch screen which works perfectly for me for anything but typing.
one thing that wasn't mentioned here is the ability to calibrate your screen to your particular touch style. that helps IMMENSELY. i do it every couple of days, too, since my tapping style seems to vary from day to day. haha.
i would suggest first getting your phone checked out for proper function and then calibrate and give yourself time to adjust if you've been using an iphone-type touch screen. different is not always bad.
