I have this Tivo, and recently stopped receiving service due to my credit card being expired. I was going to update it but then I thought about it and asked myself, is a TVGuide really the monthly charges? It's ridiculous if you ask me.
Since it's relatively old now, I might just get another DVR that doesn't have this crappy monthly service charges.

I know this is an old thread, but that being said I believe Tivo is once again offering a life time service fee on a per box basis. I'd highly recommend going that way.
I feel the technology in Tivo is better than that in DVRs.
If you can afford the life time contract it's definitely the way to go.
