Is it weird for me to want Nokia to do a gaming phone for Windows Phone 7?
Nokia tried the whole gaming thing with the N-Gage and admittedly it was a huge failure though not enough to stop them from making a second generation. Also at its time mobile phone gaming just was not where it is today. They would benefit from the success that Xbox Live has. It would be a differentiator from the other Windows Phone 7 devices out there. They don’t have to worry about getting the games out there Microsoft is taking care of that. They know how to make amazing hardware they have learned from the mistakes made with the N-Gage. Sony is doing with the Xperia Play so why not if they are planning on coming out with more than just one Windows Phone 7 device so why not. I recognize that the N-Gage isn’t exactly the most memorable device but it was an idea ahead of its time and with the way technology is today and the integration of Xbox Live I just feel that someone should be coming out with a dedicated gaming phone for Windows Phone 7.
I think that should be Nokia's next step after their initial Mango offerings. but if they go there, they need to line up a decent sized set of game partners to launch with. After all, what good would it do to have great gaming hardware with only a small handfull of games to play?
I certainly agree that they need to get a good amount of games ready to launch with this phone if they ever made it. I also would say though that they have a great library of games on Xbox Live Arcade that could be ported over. At the same time Microsoft and Nokia now work together heavily giving them acess to the already large number of game partners that make games for Xbox Live Arcade. I don't feel that getting the game comapnies would be an issue. What is the biggest problem is that other phones wont have the controller which may make game developers shy away from making a game that would essentially be playable only on one phone. I would imagine that adding some incentives for developing games that take advantage of a phone like this. Plus what is stopping any of the other companies from making a gaming phone?
