iRiver Clix 3rd gen!?

I really think iRiver made a huge mistake by not making a 3rd gen Clix. I think the tech world really fell for the little player, and i bet a 3rd gen would have really gotten a big user base. I think they should still make one, with at least 32gb flash or an HDD version, too.
The clix was way more intuitive than any iPod I've ever used - including the iPod touch. If iRiver ever realizes its mistake and then fixes it and makes a 3rd gen clix, I'm totally buying it - like I bet many other people will too.

What does everyone else think? Who knows, maybe an iRiver exec will read this...!

There's not much you can really change in the 2nd gen Clix to merit a 3rd gen. Aside from the capacity to double or quadruple from the 8GB and some minor changes, it won't be as big of an update compared to the 1st gen's upgrade.

I've bought both versions, roughly a year after release for both. I had several reasons to upgrade the 1st-gen, from bring a pure MTP player, proprietary connector and 15 fps video. The 2nd-gen fixed all those problems and I don't see how a new player could improve on this one.

Though, one thing I'd like to see is FLAC support. As c|net gave wonderful reviews on the sound quality, it's a shame it doesn't support lossless files except for WAV.

Another thing I'd like to see is generic album art support in UMS. Something as simple as albumart.jpg in a folder would be wonderful for people using this player in UMS and non-mp3 files.

I'm with you when you say they only really need to bump up the capacity.

But it seems like iRiver completely forgot about the entire clix line - you can't even buy one on iRiver's site anymore. Given the fact that clix worked GREAT with windows right out of the box, if iriver made a new 3rd gen player (one with higher flash capacity and one with a hard drive) i bet they would sell better than the zune. It seems like iriver is taking major steps back when it comes to the design of their new products. I really don't get it. They had a winning brand here.

I agree - I still have my clix2 and I love it. I got it last April and I've only had one problem: a lock-up last month. Flashing the firmware fixed it while keeping all my media and playlists on there. I don't know when I'll be ready to move on from it. I don't get the Spinn either.

I think clix didn't sell well in America, probably because it wasn't really advertised at all.

Having had both the first and second (I have the red line edition, love it!) generation versions of this MP3 player, I have to agree that iRiver could not really improve the player to the point that it needs to create the Clix3 name. I still love the DClick system, the amazing sound that comes out of such a tiny player, and the size. Oh, and did I mention it's tiny?!

My only gripe about the player is that the 2nd gen version feels a little less solid than the 1st gen that I have. I have dropped my 1st gen a few times and there are *literally* no scratches on the screen. The case that my 1st gen came in was great, and I still use it for my 2nd gen, which only sticks out a little bit more than the 1st gen.

Still, it is sad that the Clix name is no more. I had to buy my 2nd gen off eBay (new in box, of course)! Let's just hope iRiver keeps us entertained with new firmware and features!
