Discussion about
iPhone 5 excessive cell data consumption
Did anyone notice that iPhone 5 is consuming excessive amount of data over 3G? I mean, I spend most of the time in wifi based locations however in just two weeks I just got 1.4GB of data consumption over the cell provider. I never consumed more than 800MB before in one full month and now I fear that these ridiculous rates will affect my bill pay.
Yes, this is known since the launch of the iPhone. The phone is not using Wifi but has been using cellular data.

I certainly haven't experienced this with my iPhone 5 or my recently sold iPhone 4.
I do, however, use the wifi at my work and home, often turn on location and close old apps daily or semi-daily. If I'm on the road I turn on wifi and sometimes even turn on location to save the battery on a long trip.
There's actually an app to see how much data you've used in the month: myAT&T. It seems to be consistent with my usage.

Umm....that's sounds fake to me. 11.4GB? How do you do that? Just leave on the hotspot feature and unknowingly connect your laptop to it? Watch 8 hours of Netflix? I'm curious, but you sound so far out of left field that I call BS.
If this is true, people like yourself should be throttled for hogging so much data that others suffer.

Not sure where data is coming from. I stream podcasts throughout the day commuting and at work.
AT&T throttles down after 5GB.

Nope, audio only. I watch YouTube videos I find on twitter from time to time.
That's where I am agreeing with the OP that something just doesn't make sense. If I really cared I would keep a log and reset my data usage stats daily to track this down but since I have unlimited data and other ways to spend my time I don't.
