iPad bluetooth supports Apple Wireless Keyboard!

Just noticed this on Apple's iPad Design page:

"iPad also comes with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, letting you connect to devices like wireless headphones or the Apple Wireless Keyboard."

www.apple.com/ipad/design/

From what I hear, the iPad keyboard is good, but not great. I don't know if I'll ever be using the iPad for any serious word processing or anything like that, but the Apple Wireless Keyboard is very small and if I thought I might need it I wouldn't hesitate to stick it in my bag to go to class with my iPad.

Of course it doesn't specify if it supports any other bluetooth accessories, but it also doesn't specify that it doesn't.

If it is open to other bluetooth accessories, that could make all the difference for people who want more features.

Even if it was possible to connect a bluetooth camera, I doubt anyone would write software to use it, though...

As much as I would like support for the BT-1 Bluetooth Webcam, I won't hold my breath. Who knows - maybe Apple will surprise us and allow an app (and drivers) to support it.

Insanity. The iphone platform has more developers than any, i'm sure someone would pick it up.

This is good. I need to use a physical keyboard for notes in class, or I might as well skip it and get a netbook. The keyboard accessory seemed a little klunky to keep in the bag, not to mention expensive.
With a wireless keyboard, I can just put the iPad next to the keyboard, and type without necessarily having the screen right ahead of me. Touch typing ftw!

why not just get a netbook and not cripple yourself for the sake of pose value?

Yeah, a netbook is a much better idea for school.

Stands to reason that since BlueMaemo makes the N900 a standard bluetooth keyboard, that if I wanted to, I could just whip it out instead of using the on screen keyboard..

Stands to reason, yes, but making it so that the Apple Wireless Keyboard is the only compatible bluetooth keyboard is the exact kind of unreasonable thing Apple might do.

Hi,

Does anyone know whether you will be able to use Bluetooth to tether to your iPhone?

THanks

According to an email reply from Steve Jobs, the answer is simply, "No."

I think iPhone OS 4 will allow you to at least tether the keyboard to the iPhone

The ability to use the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard is great - if you already own one. Given that I don't, I'll likely purchase the Apple Keyboard Dock for iPad.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I dont quite understand how just having Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR means the Ipad supports the Bluetooth Keyboard given that the Iphone 3GS has Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and no Keyboard support. Whats the difference..am I missing something?

Because Apple says so.
